Where you’ll be

Langcliffe, England, United Kingdom

Langcliffe is a peaceful, picturesque Dales village of stone cottages set around an expansive green, surrounded by craggy limestone fells. On the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are great walks and bike rides from the doorstep, yet you are within a mile of the amenities of Settle.

Take a lovely, gentle walk along the River Ribble to the cafe at Knight Stainforth, hike 'over the tops' to Malham or do a section of the Pennine Bridleway. If you are feeling energetic you can tackle our local mountains (Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside) known at the Yorkshire 'Three Peaks' - the classic route starts at Horton, a little further up Ribblesdale.

Malham with its famous cove (featured in Harry Potter), tarn, waterfall and Goredale scar is within a few miles. The area is famous for its caves and potholes - Ingleborough and White Scar caves are easily accessible and ideal for families, keen cavers will be spoilt for choice. We can help link you up with guides for walks, caving, climbing or cycling. Or go on a scenic drive past the iconic Ribblehead viaduct and into the heart of the Dales - we suggest some routes in our information pack.

Nearby Settle is a bustling market town nestled under an impressive limestone scar. It is filled with cosy pubs serving traditional ale and hearty food, artisan cafes offering great coffee, brunch and cakes, independent gift and craft shops as well as an independent bakery, butcher, and delicatessen. Fish and chips and takeaways are also available. We'll be delighted to share our recommendations.

There are a number of local farm shops and an excellent supermarket, 'Booths' in Settle. Settle also has a Co-op petrol garage with a large convenience shop should you need anything out of hours. There is also a doctors and pharmacy.

Settle has a golf course, fishing and pony trekking nearby.

Skipton with its castle, canal trips and markets and Kirkby Lonsdale with river walks, gourmet shops, market and cafes are both within 30 minutes drive.

We can provide you with lots of suggestions to keep kids happy and busy! Settle has a heated indoor swimming pool, a large bike hire shop (including electric bikes), and playgrounds. There is a lovely 'hands-on' toy shop for little ones.

Within 30-40 minutes drive there are farm parks, soft play centres, adventure playgrounds, forest adventure trails, accessible caves, cinemas and bowling alleys. Within an hour you can reach the Lake District which offers plenty of attractions for all ages.

We lived in London for over a decade, and have travelled around the world but returned to the stunning Yorkshire Dales (where I grew up) to bring up our family - we love exploring it with our two young boys.
