All about Victoria’s place

A newly renovated, listed cottage on the Essex & Suffolk border within the Dedham Vale. The cottage sits within an AONB and is in a perfect location to explore the River Stour and surrounding countryside.
There are many places of interest nearby, which include: Flatford Mill, Colchester Zoo, Kentwell Hall & Gardens, Marks Hall Gardens and Arboretum, gastropubs, farm shops, farmers' markets and antiques shops. London is also conveniently located via Colchester train station.

The space
We have fully renovated the cottage to a high standard. Original, exposed beams in the bedroom juxtaposition beautifully with the new, open-plan kitchen extension, which spacious room also provides designated dining and living areas and a cosy log burner.
Downstairs there is a large double bedroom, with a generous ensuite bathroom (with bath). The remaining space downstairs comprises an office, a laundry room and a second family bathroom with a walk-in power shower.
Upstairs there is one double bedroom and another bedroom with a king bed (which can be converted into twin beds if requested in advance). Please note that the upstairs has areas with restricted head height. There is no stair gate on the stairs so please supervise your children accordingly.
There is off road parking adjacent to the cottage for two cars.
On prior request we can provide a travel cot and other baby equipment; please contact us prior to your stay for details.

Where you’ll be

Little Horkesley, England, United Kingdom

The cottage is set in beautiful, rural countryside on the Essex Suffolk border. Guests can enjoy scenic walks along public footpaths towards the River Stour.
The picturesque villages of Nayland and Stoke-by-Nayland are also nearby and both have excellent pubs: The Crown, Stoke-by-Nayland and The Anchor, Nayland.
We heartily recommend Kerridges butchers in Nayland (CO6 4JL) and John Coleman butchers in Boxted (CO4 5HU).
In summer we enjoy PYO at McLauchlans of Boxted fruit farm (CO4 5RB). Fillpots garden centre which is adjacent to the fruit farm has a good cafe.
Our nearest coffee fix is the Blue Owl, Great Horkesley (CO6 4AH) which is a pottery painting cafe with a lovely family-friendly atmosphere.
Other local attractions include:
- Boating on the river from Flatford Mill to Dedham, through "Constable Country"
- Colchester Zoo (CO3 0SL)
- Colchester Castle Museum, Park & Gardens (CO1 1TJ)
- West Mersea beach (lunch at The Company Shed for "catch of the day" CO5 8PA). Other beaches nearby include Frinton-on-sea and Southwold
- Highwoods country park, Colchester (CO4 5JR)
- Kentwell Hall & Gardens and browsing antiques shops in Long Melford (CO10 9BA)
- Gainsborough's House in the market town of Sudbury (CO10 2EU)
- Dedham Vale Vineyard (CO4 5TS)
- Hollow Trees farm (IP7 6HX)
- Go Bananas soft play, Colchester
