Station Cottage is a recently renovated Victorian railway building. Offering cosy accommodation for up to 4 guests, it is a perfect base for walking, cycling (road and off-road) or just for enjoying being surrounded by green spaces and fresh air.

Situated in the small, but thriving, village of Bucknell, it is within walking distance of an excellent pub, a petrol station and butchers.

Accommodation includes a living room with woodburning stove, private kitchen and bathroom.

The space
Sat immediately adjacent to the rural Heart of Wales line, listed as one of the Guardian's 'Best Travel Discoveries of 2018', Station Cottage Bucknell is a dream destination for railway lovers young and old. 8 trains a day pass slowly, and quietly, through the station with the conductors and drivers always happy to share a friendly wave.

Grade II listed, and recognised by Pevsner in his 'Buildings of England' books, the cottage is an architectural gem of significant historical interest.

Guest access
Guests have access to the whole cottage, including private living room, bathroom and kitchen. They also have sole use of private, off-road parking in front of the cottage.

There is a small garden in front of the cottage with a lawned area

Other things to note
We are happy to have a single well behaved dog to stay, although please don't allow them into the upstairs/bedrooms of the cottage. We think the space at the cottage would be best suited to a small/medium dog.
Please be aware that the cottage garden is not enclosed and if dogs are left to run free they could get onto the road. If you want to get out and about, there are loads of great dog walks straight from the front door. We'll be happy to share route options when you're here, we have a black labrador and know which are her favourites.

Neighbourhood highlights

Bucknell offers a range of attractions for visitors including two pubs that serve excellent food, perfect for relaxing at the end of an active (or quiet) day.

Walkers are spoilt for choice in the surrounding countryside. There are a variety of footpaths and bridleways to explore, plus well loved longer routes such as Offa's Dyke, the Mortimer Trail and the recently opened Heart of Wales walking route.

Mountain bikers will love the trails at both Hopton and Bucknell Woods. Hopton has an excellent, clearly waymarked red-circuit, and both venues offer uplift days through Pearce Cycles in addition to occasional organised downhill races.

For road cyclists, there are hundreds of route options on quiet roads with beautful views. Your hosts, Nina and Sam, are both keen cyclists and will be happy to offer route advice from short potters suitable for children, to 190 mile epics taking you to the Welsh coast and back.

Secure storage for several bikes is available.

For railway enthusiasts, the Cottage is an excellent base for exploring the Heart of Wales line. Why not use it a base for a circular trip around the whole route, using their Explorer ticket? It's also worth keeping an eye out for occasional special services, a steam train chugging past the station is a real sight to behold.

The nearby market towns of Knighton and Ludlow are well worth visiting, with Ludlow particularly well known for its local food scene, which is accompanied by a large number of high quality restaurants.
