This is north of Boulder Creek about 20 minutes, at the top end of Big Basin Redwoods Park/HWY 236, and right off the Skyline-to-Sea hiking trail. We are 50 minutes above Santa Cruz, and 90 minutes from San Francisco. Ideal for one person or couple looking for quiet retreat. $75/night, $150/weekend, $350/wk., $850/mo. Artists and musicians especially welcomed. No dogs or smokers, please.

Mark really took the time to show us around the cabin and surroundings. It can be tricky to find the place, and evidently best to follow Mark's map and instructions - we didn't and kind of got lost! We came because we wanted to explore Big Basin SP and look at the redwoods, and it was the perfect location for that. Being in the middle of the forest, it prolonged our experience. We even saw deer walking around at the front in the morning! Remember to bring your own food as you'll be miles away from anything. We cooked dinner, had a bottle of wine, and played Trivial Pursuit (supplied!) while listening to the CDs provided by Mark. The cabin is rustic and you need to be realistic about that.

Mark's cabin was majestic to stay at for a month and a half. I loved it. Mark and Nick were considerate hosts making things easeful and checking in throughout my stay. At the place there is A Lot of quiet, deer I saw most every day, and turkeys on occasion too. I enjoyed the stars, the redwoods, and the hiking trails. If you're thinking to get away into nature, this is a great option; I highly recommend it.

Mark's place was exactly what we were looking for in a weekend away from the city. Everything was just as described and was perfect for me and my teenage son. Deer came right up to the cabin in the evenings, we were able to do some hiking right from the yard, and we sat around the campfire in the evening. Big Basin was an 8 minute drive away, and we also hiked a little of the Skyline to Sea trail from the 236. There was a ton of food stuff in the cabin, which made buying groceries so much easier. Super comfortable bed, too. We will definitely be back. :)

This is an amazing cabin! We spent two nights there to hike in Big Basin and Castle Rock, and it was perfect. The cabin is secluded, but Mark was incredibly helpful with directions, calling beforehand and then waiting for us out on the road to help us negotiate the last few tricky turns. He then gave us an amazing tour of the cabin, which includes a fully functional kitchen (all the basics plus breakfast supplied), running water, a composting toilet (pretty fun), and a large living area. The cabin was a great place to kick back, cook, and rest after our long hikes. Couldn't recommend it more for a few nights of escape!

Mark's cabin is located in the middle of the forest a few miles from Big Basin Redwood state park. It is spatious, quiet and peaceful. Everything is perfect if you want to hang out in a remote place for a few days, go on a hike, have a campfire and don't expect 21st century luxury. (Be prepared to a trip back to the 1980s.) We enjoyed our stay.

We had a perfect stay at Mark's place on our night before a big hike at Big Basin, which was only like a 15-minute-ish drive away. It was ultra cozy, clean, and had all the amenities we needed. Great communication, and we appreciated Mark's directions on how to get there (he forewarned us cell phone service is spotty for non-AT&T cell carriers in that neck of the woods, so paper directions were handy!). Would definitely stay there again if in the area.
