Apple Tree Cottage is a two bedroom old thatched cottage on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border situated at the end of a no through lane and moments away from Bentley Wood: a 1,500 acre woodland nature reserve.
This tranquil spot is a great base from which to enjoy sightseeing and countryside walks. Bijou accommodation that is suitable for a couple, two-three friends or family with young children.
The space
The cottage is medieval in origin and one of the oldest buildings in the village but it has been renovated to provide compact and comfortable accommodation. It is situated next door to the host’s property.
Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen (inc dishwasher and washing machine), bathroom (shower-over-bath, basin and WC) and combined sitting/dining room with chairs for up to x4 people. Upstairs are two cosy rooms in the eaves: one double and a twin.
Any guests who are over 6ft/1.8m tall, please be warned there are low ceilings throughout.
Outside there is a private, enclosed garden with table and seating to sit and enjoy the birdsong and watch swallows swooping in and out of their nests. There is ample parking for two cars on the shared drive at the front of the property.
Towels, hand soap, loo roll, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, laundry detergent, bin liners are provided. A Nespresso machine is provided for coffee making.
Due to our rural location phone signal may be patchy depending on the provider but in August 2026 we changed internet provider therefore our WiFi should now be more consistent.
Other things to note
10 minutes to Salisbury. Close to New Forest, Stonehenge and Peppa Pig World. 40 minutes to Winchester. 1 hour to Portsmouth. 1 hour 30 to Oxford.

The kitchen and bathroom ceilings are 1.9m high and the first floor landing is under sloped eaves - the living room and bedroom ceilings are standard height.

The cottage is a few minutes walk from Bentley Wood: a 1,500 acre bluebell woods that is wonderful for walks.
East Grimstead is a small and friendly village of c 180 people. It lacks a shop and a pub but the Hook & Glove in Farley is a mile away.

I have been hosting guests at Apple Tree Cottage since 2012 when I made the move from London to a life in the countryside.
My family and I live next door so we are able to pop round and say hello and check you have settled in OK. Plus we are always happy to help with sightseeing advice etc.
Its been wonderful to meet so many interesting people over the years from around the globe and welcome them to our little corner of Wiltshire.
