Our family - young, old and middling - all adored La Chiana. Set high in the hills with spectacular views to the sea, it was a haven of tranquility, interrupted only by the sounds of sheep & cow bells, crickets & the conversation of local farm dogs. But, just a few minutes by car down the hillside there's a great pizzeria (with swimming pool, which the owner kindly let us use one morning before lunch) & the pretty village of Pettineo, offering a great cafe for lovely granite, gelati and pastries, away from the tourist trail. We swam often in the clear, warm sea at nearby Castel Di Tusa which still had space in the beach for us in August - a luxury! The lovely towns of Cefulu and Santa Stefano Di Camastra are a scenic and not too distant drive away, and a more adventurous mountain drive to the incredibly pretty hilltop town of Gangi provided a greater glimpse of Sicily's rural beauty. Greek ruins and another hilltop town Tusa are a fascinating & and closer excursion. Ultimately, there's lots to do - or just relax in the garden hammock and take in the views. La Chiana itself is beautifully decorated in a traditional style but offers every comfort. Air conditioning cooled the bedrooms in the August heat and although we were too often tempted by the local restaurant menus there is a great barbecue area and pizza oven for preparing your own food. Salvatore and his father Mario were wonderful hosts, making us feel very welcome and always on hand with information and help. We were even adopted by a lovely local farm cat, to make a great holiday even more perfect! It was very hard to leave and hope very much to return one day.

We spent 16 nights at La Chiana and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. You have to understand that it's quite secluded and a little hard to reach, but that's exactly what we wanted. At the same time, it's no great investment of time to reach several excellent beaches, or Cefalu for a boat tour out to the Aeolian islands, or Tindari for the church and ruins, or the mountain town of Gangi, or the beautiful coastal town of Santa Stefano di Camastra which has several outstanding restaurants and unique ceramics. When you simply want to stay at home and vegetate, the house is cool and serene, the extensive grounds are full of fruit trees and a notable ancient olive tree, the bells of the neighbouring farmer's goats are quite hypnotic, and the view from the front terrace, over the surrounding valleys and towns and down to the sea, is endlessly fascinating. Salvatore and his father were, from the moment we arrived in Pettineo and stupidly wedged ourselves in a too-narrow street, incredibly friendly, helpful and generous. They supplied us with excellent local produce and lots of local tips. They did far more to help us and make our stay enjoyable than any hosts in our previous experience. We really felt like guests rather than clients. Overall, one of our very best Airbnb experiences.

Salvator and his father Mario were really nice! The hospitality of them was even more amazing than the house, the garden and the view from the terrace. And that really means a lot! Because we never have had an accommodation with such a beautiful view, such a great and wide garden and such a lovingly restored, more than 250 years old house (including a small church like in the pictures). The pictures rather underestimate the excellent aspect of the house and the environment. We spent 10 days in the house at the really end of October with our two children (6 and 8) and we enjoyed it a lot. The beach is not too far away and the sea is (at least for Germans) still warm enough for swimming in it nearly every day. We cannot close this report without mentioning Miele, the dog of one of the neighbors which was so nice to the children and guarded us during the dark nights in this beautiful place. We hope to come back soon! A car is definitely required. Crazie Mario e grazie Salvatore!

My family and I just stayed at this beautiful house for one week and absolutely loved it. Since my (extended) family and I live on opposite sides of the world we were looking for a place spacious enough to host us all (we were 5 adults and 2 children) and at the same time away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and touristy places - to spend quality time together. La Chiana was everything we had imagined and more! Mario (Salvatore's father) treated us like family from day one. His generosity is something truly special: we were welcomed with locally produced wine, cheese, olive oil as well as nuts, lemons, oranges, figs and prickly pears which grow in abundance on the property. Both Mario and Salvatore made sure on a regular basis that we had everything we needed. We spend a lot of time on the terrace of this lovingly restored country house, taking in the stunning views, preparing and enjoying beautiful food and wine while the kids where happily roaming around the house, collecting flowers and chasing lizards. We also enjoyed trips to Castel di Tusa and Capo d'Orlando for some beach time, Cefalu and Santo Stefano di Camastra for sightseeing and shopping and also to the nearby towns of Pettineo and Mistretta, little time-capsules most definitely worth a visit. We couldn't have had a more beautiful time here and would love to come back one day!

Our stay was absolutely fantastic. Our arrival included a warm personal greeting as well as some fresh fruit and cheese and a bottle of wine. The property is THE definition of a Sicilian farmhouse. House is clean and extremely inviting. Views are fantastic. Arrival does take a little while as the roads are mountainous but the prize at the end is this property. The surrounding property filled with fruit trees, plums, herbs, and flowers is amazing. The house is perfect for families, reunions, and relaxing. Having family in Sicily and having travelled here many times if you want to experience the "true" flavor of this great island I recommend La Chiana.

We had a wonderfull time in La Chiana. The house and surroundings are extremely well kept. I really enjoyed the garden, picking walnuts and lemons. And Salvatore was a perfect host. Contacted us several times to hear if everything was ok and even brought us a treat from the local butcher. Absolutely enjoyed it. And the view from the house is amazing.

The place is amazing (the view from the terrace is unreal) and Salvatore was the best host ever. Note that the property is in a fairly remote location (10 min drive on steep country roads to the nearest village) which I actually prefer but you need to be comfortable staying in a Sicilian countryside 'on your own'. If we can we will definitely be coming back.

Response from Salvatore:
Dear Szymon, thanks for your review, I hope to see you and your beautiful family again! Since it is quite personal the feeling with the distances and the roads I write some clarifications for any interested future guests. It is important to inform that the house is only 5 km far from the village of Pettineo and the same if you have a lot of privacy (thanks to the 5 acres of belonging land) you are not in the middle of nowhere (there are other properties all around and an “agriturismo” at just 100 meters from the house); moreover it is important to note that the road to the house can be a bit steep in few points (which is natural for a country retreat at 600 meters on the sealevel) but it is all asphalt roads and you can easily reach the house with any kind of cars(to give the idea some of my guests reached "la Chiana" with a FIAT 500 without any problems). Cheers Salvatore
