Whatever your reason for passing through the small villages and towns near the White Mountains, this is a charming and affordable little hideout.

The space

Up past the barn - Large private entry bedroom at the main house, queen bed with private bath (walk in shower) and large screened porch. Beautiful, quiet, up on a ridge and way off the road on twenty five acres. Surrounded by mature trees that whisper in the wind.

Guest access

Small refrigerator on Porch beside your entry door. No Kitchen access. No WiFi. Verizon works best. Please plan your arrival between 3 and 7:30pm if at all possible. You have access to the Town Beach on Squam Lake and swimming holes (Cold River Potholes - be very careful here during high water, rocks are slippery and current is very strong) both less than 10 minutes drive. We can provide Breakfast on the porch during the warmer months, please let us know in advance if possible, otherwise, Continental: tea, coffee, something simple and yummy in your room. There is No WiFi here but guests can use host's access in emergencies. Verizon works best in this area, and most GPS works around here. WiFi is available at the Village Library, often just parking outside is enough to gain access. The kitchen is not available to guests and the house beyond your room and bath is private!

Grab this gem if you can! Very nicely done inside, and the screen porch makes the whole thing very spacious and enjoyable. Lots of books around, and Jan is a most pleasant and informative host. It's peaceful and extremely quiet but town is a short hop down the road. This is a fabulous find and a great home base for exploring the Squam Lakes area. Highly recommend.

Response from Jan:
Katherine, what a lovely review! Thank you so much. It is such a joy to have visitors enjoy this place as much as I do. Come back when you tackle another mountain. Hope the hike up Percival was all you hoped. We did the Alice Beamis Sanctuary boardwalk this morning in the still cloudy airless noon, and one little bird came out to greet us, always a different experience. Hope you made that visit also. Best Wishes, Jan

This is just the perfect Airbnb to get away from urban living for a while. Off the grid AND super comfortable. Living in the woods between the lakes and the mountains. Lots of wildlife, a wonderful private porch, Large bedroom, great bathroom. And Jan could not have been more welcoming. Just great!

Wonderful stay & fantastic host! We loved the location: beautiful and peaceful tucked away in the woods. Jan was very accommodating and helped give us suggestions on places to explore to make the most of our trip. Coffee on the porch was a great way to start the morning! Would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I loved our stay at Jan's place. The room was beautiful and comfortable and there was a lovely screened in porch where I had coffee in the morning and listened to the birds and enjoyed a view of the surrounding woods. Jan was a wonderful host and our stay at Jan's place was a highlight of our trip to New Hampshire. Amber Davis

Jan was very warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived (and even before then). We had one rainy day and one sunny day and she gave us great advice on what to do for both days. She brought us delicious coffee and blueberry bread on the porch each morning. The house was clean, comfortable, and had a lot of character. We would definitely recommend as a quiet place to stay in the lakes region.
