The Old Dairy is a beautiful three storey 1850’s stone cottage in the semi-rural village of Bishton (near Magor) - a country feel yet scores of amenities within a short drive.

You'll notice heaps of original features from its working farm history, including stone walls, oak beams, wood floors plus many other quirky characteristics!

Take a moment to read the fantastic reviews to hear what guests think!

The space
Your safety as a guest is paramount. The Old Dairy will be cleaned to the highest possible standard to include sanitisation of all surfaces, touch-points, fixtures and fittings prior to each stay to ensure your safety and peace of mind during your visit.
Covid Safety Packs will be provided to all guests at The Old Dairy (including Antibacterial Gel, latex gloves, masks and antibacterial wipes for your use).

The Old Dairy is a hugely unique, three storey cottage with cosy yet totally functional living space on the ground floor, gorgeous bedroom and bathroom with original floorboards on the first floor where you’ll find The Old Creamery. Above on the top floor, you’ll find The Apple Loft, a spacious Master bedroom with stunning original oak A frame in the attic space.

Ideally situated - with quick motorway access with a fabulous country feel, just 5 mins from the M4 Severn/Prince of Wales Bridge - The Gateway To Wales - giving fantastic access to all nearby attractions. We are right on the edge of stunning Monmouthshire.

You are more than welcome to bring your well behaved furry companions along (at no extra charge!).

The kitchen is small but newly finished and perfect for everything you need! It has a traditional Belfast sink and electric Mini Range Cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher finished with beautiful solid oak worktops. The sockets are fitted with multiple USB charging points. There is also a kitchen island for additional preparation space.

Pop the retro style radio on or connect to the built in Bluetooth speaker to listen to your own playlists!

The living space has a beautiful feature Welsh dresser and antique pine pieces in keeping with the style of the cottage with very comfortable leather sofa and chairs. Cushions and blankets are provided for your comfort.

The Old Creamery (First floor) has original floorboards and a beautiful fireplace, whilst the spacious Apple Loft (Top floor), has high vaulted ceilings with original A frame oak beams, velux windows fitted into the sloping roofs and a gorgeous feel to it. Both bedrooms have high quality furnishings, mattresses and bed linen for your comfort and are decorated simply and tastefully. Blackout blinds are fitted in both rooms to ensure a great nights rest.

Passing trains can sometimes be heard and seen in the distance on the far side of the fields. The excellent additional glazing in the Old Creamery ensures a quiet nights rest. Sometimes guests are lucky enough to have a sighting of a passing steam train, which is a real treat!

The front garden is a wonderful place to watch the world go by, there is a dining set surrounded by pretty pots and flowers, just as a cottage garden should be. The rear garden has recently been completely redesigned to provide a perfect, private, sunny space to enjoy with a lovely corner garden furniture suite and a beautifully arranged patio area of potted flowers and plants. This space is also fully secure for dogs/young children and is a lovely little sun trap until about 8pm on a warm evening. Pop the solar lights on, grab a blanket for when it’s gets a little chilly and soak up the atmosphere.

There are two parking spaces to the rear of the cottage.

Please do not block the driveway at any time though, as the farmer needs to be able to access it 24/7, many thanks.

There are scores of birds in the garden at The Old Dairy and always plenty plenty of food (so that you can fill the feeders if you wish). There is a resident Bishton Woodpecker around most days along with plenty of robins, sparrows, tits and a whole host of other fabulous songbirds who will all happily feed right outside the front door.

Within 5 minutes drive is the quaint nearby village of Magor, offering a choice of coffee shops and places to eat. (This includes a Co-Op store, Chinese/Fish & Chip/Pizza takeaway, two Indian restaurants, a post office, a barber, dentist, hairdresser & beauty salon, a small bakery, and two pet friendly pubs).

Castle Farm, Bishton is now open and walking distance from The Old Dairy - they supply locally produced milk, eggs, bacon, sausages, chicken, steaks plus fruit, veg, ice cream, ready meals, and so much more! They will even deliver for free - just let them know that you are guests at The Old Dairy and place your order via their Facebook page - Castle Farm Shop - or give them a call to place your order on 01633 412979.

The Milton Hotel in Llanwern has a warm welcome, front beer garden and provides a very good value meal.

The Rose at Redwick is a lovely traditional country pub, with a roaring fire in the bar in winter.

For those who are a little adventurous, you can walk to Historic Magor Square with the dogs for a delicious meal at the award winning Golden Lion. Find a seat on a comfy sofa by their log burners, choose a well earned glass of hand picked wine, experience first class service and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended! Dogs are allowed in the bar at the front.

There are lovely walks from the cottage - with or without dogs, plus Wentwood forest a short drive away provides miles upon miles of forest trails! The RSPB Wetlands centre is also nearby for a stroll close to nature.

The Magor to Goldcliffe Coastal Path Walk forms part of the Gwent Levels and is well worth it. Top tip - try out the quirky little Seawall Tearooms at Goldcliffe!

If you’re a cycling enthusiast (which I am!) it’s perfect as there are plenty of flat roads and villages to explore - there are lots of cycle routes available on:

25 mins from Tintern Abbey/Wye Valley.

Where you’ll be

Bishton, Wales, United Kingdom

The village of Bishton's historic name was “Bishop’s Town”. It is a linear village dating back to the post-Roman period when it was a centre for the Bishops of Llandaff. It has a strong association with Cadwaladr the Blessed, the last Welsh king to claim sovereignty of Britain. Cadwaladr later became a Welsh Christian Saint and Bishton’s Church is named after him, one of only three in Wales.

Key features of Bishton today are St Cadwaladr’s Church, the former Primary School (now the village hall), a number of houses dating from the 17th/18th centuries together with more recent dwellings including several converted from agricultural barns. Its population is about 150.
