The space

Interaction with guests

It was a great staying with Pape and Marie. They were very warm people and we felt very comfortable around them. Pape was very considering and tried to find all the activities for us. Marie went twice in a roll with us to the ice-swimming, what an experience! We also went to the top of the forest just behind the house, it was quiet and we could have a beautiful view of the lakes at the bottom, as well as the sunset at only 14:30 in lapland.

We were on our honeymoon and were looking for somewhere less commercial to experience an authentic Finnish Christmas eve and Christmas. We found Papé's place and decided to stay with him instead of the touristy Rovaniemi Santa Village, and we did not regret the choice. Papé & Marja were very attentive to us during our stay there. They made us feel very at home. We had access to the fridge, the kitchen and the winter equipment, and we had fun exploring the forests and lake around the accommodation on their snow shoes. The apartment we stayed in was cosy and comfortable. with constant hot water supply and comfortable bed. If you do not drive, Papé can fetch and send you to the places you want to go at a fee and the activities he recommended were very authentic and enjoyable. We fed reindeers and tried ice fishing. We also had Christmas dinner with Papé, Marja and the other guests, and tried many yummy French and Finnish dishes prepared by Papé and Marja with love. Papé was also very generous to share his wood-heated sauna, and we had fun bbq-ing sausages over fire in a traditional Finnish tentage while listening to Papé's life experiences. The fabulous experience was topped off with sightings of Northern Lights right at the door steps on our last night - not once but twice! We ended up only spending an hour at the Santa Village, which was indeed very touristy, and Papé was very nice to wait for us while we checked out the place so that he could send us to the Rovaniemi train station after that to take our overnight train back to Helsinki. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously during our stay with Papé and we definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Lapland experience in Finland.

It was really amazing to stay at this unique house that was an old elementary school years ago. The view from our room (it happened to be an old gymnasium) was very beautiful. Pierre and other members of the house made me and my 5-year-old son feel very welcomed. Pierre arranged so many exciting activities for us during our stay in Kemijarvi, and food they provided us was very delicious!

my flight was delayed and had to change my plan for that day, pape was very flexible with it. i was impressed with how much effort pape put into the house, making it unique and warm. He always have new ideas on how to improve his house. we will always discuss the day before what activities i would like to do for the next day. A relax walk around the neighbourhood, in the little forest behind the house...pape was always there with me. Never was i being forced to do things that i dont want. Chatting on the car made the ride enjoyable and the lessons that pape learnt in his life was shared with me. Not forgetting the delicious meals that i had and learnt how to cook. bon appétit!! pape and his wife prepared more food for me the next day after knowing that i have a big appetite. Which i thought that it is very sweet of them. pape's wife is a fun person to be around with and i enjoyed every opportunity that i had with her. Come stay with pape and his wife!

Pape and his wife Marie were the most fantastic airbnb hosts I've met and I'll thoroughly recommend anyone heading to Finnish Lapland to visit them for a local and memorable stay. They were welcoming, warm, humorous, flexible, caring, and even inspiring. Pape scanned through my interests, and planned for activities that catered to all my needs. We visited Kemijarvi museum (where Marie patiently translated the speeches to me), headed to the supermarket, and prepared dinner together. Did suana that night. The next day, Pape brought me through the woods with his cute little puppy Jimmy, and we had grilled makara (grilled suassage) which was very Finnish. (Of course, you could do husky rides, reindeer feeder, snowmobile, ice fishing etc - and Pape and Marie would be able to help you organize tours at a competitive rates.) I spent most of the time talking to Pape, and he shared a lot about his stories, dreams, and gave really good advise as well. Their place was huge, clean, cosy, and full of intricate details. Pape and Marie dedicated a lot of time, effort and love into hosting people to their place and to Kemijarmi. If you are a solo traveler, or big group of friends (even 10!) Pape and Marie will be able to host you. Don't miss the chance to forge valuable friendship with Pape and Marie! :)

(Please find below the translation in English)

Having travelled all around of France by my profession as a reporter, I wanted to live my passions for freedom, nature and humanism. It was only natural that I ended up at this white paradise to realize my dreams.
Away from the crowds and stress of our society, I give free run to my creativity:
whether in large hiking or dog sledding through the forest with no barriers,
whether in listening to the silence, when, sitting atop a hill lost in the infinite clarity of the air of Lapland or in the magical flamboyance of the northen lights I communicate with the nature arund me or sometimes with spirits...
whether meeting the other, the one in here, his culture, this ancient knowledge, which helps me to understand what is to be learned.

In this world of loneliness (1 inhabitant per km2) one enjoys even more to receive other people, to offer the best of himself to elaborate a dish, to share a moment plenty of warm friendship through simple pleasures of palate.

Enthusiast of Lapland, I created the NAKOYU Association (Friends of the School of the Arctic Circle), in order to save The Old School of Halosenranta and its historical heritage, but also a center of research and application on renewable energy and, if one day my means permit, a House of artists.

I invite you to share my passion.
