About this listing

The space

You are very welcome in a house, which counts more than two centuries! It was built in early 19th century to house a French officer while Corfu was under Napoleon's command. Right after Waterloo, the house was lived by a British officer. Around 1850 it was bought by our family to whom it belongs until today. The house is a typical sample of the architecture of what was known in Corfu under the French word '' mas''. A village house, owned by wealthy families having, mainly, olive yards, in order to survey the agricultural works was a must. When our ancestors bought this house, they added the olive press and the stable in order to make it suitable for this purpose. Nowadays, our family has moved permanently in Athens for more than half a century. As a consequence, the olive press and the stable were restored and altered into apartments decorated with the original antique furniture, ready to host our friends or anyone who would like to visit this beautiful house!

The stable has been transformed into a lovely house that can accommodate 4 persons, two in the bedroom with one double bed, and two in the living room with sofa-bed, which can be transformed into a double bed or two single beds. Baby cot available on request.

Apart from the stable, the adjoining olive press has also been renovated into a 5-persons apartment. Together the olive press and the stable can host up to 9 persons, ideal for a big family or a big company. You can refer to the listing titled "Estate in Doukades (Olivepress)".

We hope you find it interesting and we wish you a very pleasant sojourn!

The description really can't fully capture the experience. The Stable is unique and staying there lets you get off the beaten tourist path a bit and get a peek into the life of Corfu. Directions to The Stable were excellent. Betty, the caretaker, met us and showed us around the apartment, then gave us a quick tour of the town, as well as suggestions for activities. There are 3 restaurants within walking distance and a well stocked store. The apartment is well sized for two, private, clean and comfortable.

We had a wonderfull stay at Sofia and Alda's place. They always answered very quickly to our requests and sent us a clear and helpfull message before arrival to explain how to get to their place. The house is very clean, thanks to Betty who lives around and is always here for everything you need. The village of Doukades is so nice, you can find everything you need, even some very good food at local tavernes. People around are also very kind. We have a 17 months baby, and we highly recommand this place to families. Hope we could go back one day. Lucie, Benjamin and baby Céleste.

We had a lovely short stay at this fantastic converted stable. Betty greeted us from the road outside of the house to make it easier to find and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay in Doukades. There is a village just down the hill with some lovely local restaurants which are more than worth a visit. Great hosts and a great apartment, would definately stay here again if in Corfu!

The Doukades estate is simply breathtaking. The stables (where we stayed) is perfect for a couple looking to explore the area and the village of Doukades (a 2 min walk from the accommodation) is gorgeous! Bernadette, the manager of the two properties at the estate, went above and beyond to offer advice on what to do, arrange transport for us, and tell us about the history of the estate and the village. Many say this is the most beautiful part of Corfu and we'd have to agree. Enjoy your stay here!

The converted stable clean, comfortable and accurately represented on the website. Situated on the edge of a quiet village, within easy walking distance to a few good local restaurants, it made an excellent base for exploring the local countryside and the rest of the island. Bernadette, who looks after the property was wonderfully attentive to our needs. It may be worth noting that the outside area is shared with the adjacent olive press (beautifully converted to a B&B) was unoccupied during our stay and thus our privacy was not compromised.

A wonderful stay--far better than a hotel! Would certainly recommend the estate for anyone staying on Corfu.

We've spent an amazing stay at Sofia & Alda stable. The place is even better than in the pictures, we don't have any problems or disappointment. We've met Sofia, witch is very kind and accommodating. And Betty ( witch is sutch a nice person ) who lives just by the house, and is here to provide to everything. From day one to the end, she has been available and with good advices. The village of Doukades is very pleasant and not too much touristic, the people in the village are very nice. We are traveling with Air BnB since 2 years and it's one of the best places we've been. We higly recommand. And we thank warmly Betty for everything.

We are realy glad you loved our Stable! It is our turn to admit that you were exceptionally good as guests! We rarely see guests leaving the house as clean and tidy as you did! Hoping to see you again!

Sisters, having inherited this beautiful country estate, a family property for more than 150 years! The elder is an economist who worked with a bank and after retirement took her second diploma in interior decoration. The younger holds a diploma in tourism business and now is a professional porcelain painter! Both have strong social life, recently decided to become hostesses in their effort to keep the estate full of life! The aim is to keep alive the property and open to those who ask for privacy but undisturbed view, a hint of history without lucking comforts, a relaxing yet interesting environment, a cozy though spacious shelter! So, you are very welcome hoping that you take home your best memories!
