>> CLEANING PROTOCOL: Every owner of a property listed with Bolthole Retreats has undertaken to implement a series of additional cleaning measures in order to minimise the risk of infection between stays. Housekeepers have been instructed to follow a 30-point guide which involves cleaning first to remove germs and other impurities, and then disinfecting to kills germs with chemicals while wearing disposable gloves and facemasks. All laundry will be washed using a bleach or other disinfectant-based laundry detergent containing active oxygen bleach at a temperature of at least 60 degrees. At least one pot of hand sanitiser, and for the larger properties 2 or 3 pots, will be provided. Implementing these measures will necessarily result in an increase in the time taken to undertake a clean. Therefore, we ask that guests respect the advertised check-in and check-out times, and we will regrettably be unable to agree to any exceptions.

THE SPACE>> Introduction
Perched on the side of The Chipping, above the picture-perfect green that lies at the bottom of the infamous Gumstool Hill, sits Old Stables, an idyllic Cotswolds holiday cottage. Offering both excellent amenities and a fabulous location, Old Stables provides a warm welcome for visitors looking to explore this enchanting area of the English countryside.

A semi-detached, natural stone cottage, accessed via a paved pathway above the green, from the outside Old Stables is the epitome of understated Cotswold cosiness. Benefiting from a shared front patio and a private, enclosed, south-facing courtyard garden to the rear, guests can enjoy relaxing and dining al fresco. In the warmer months, the courtyard basks in the bloom of the pretty wall-climbing garden.

Inside, the cottage is well-equipped, simple and stylish. A cosy Living Room and spacious Kitchen/Dining area comprise the ground floor. Upstairs, guests have use of 3 bedrooms, including the Master Bedroom, Single Room and Twin Room with 2 small doubles – perfect for those who enjoy a little extra space.

Tetbury itself is a wonderful town to enjoy over a weekend, or from which to base yourself when exploring the wider Cotswolds. If you’re a lover of all things vintage or antique – Tetbury is undoubtedly the place for you. Teeming with unique antique shops, and an abundance of cafes, boutiques and pubs and of course, Prince Charles’ Tetbury residence inspired shop – Highgrove, where all profits go to The Prince of Wales’ Charitable Foundation. Westonbirt Arboretum, home to over 2500 different species of tree, is just a short drive away, as is the bigger market town of Cirencester.

Local Amenities

Within a minutes’ walk up a pedestrianised path from the cottage, you will find yourself in Tetbury town centre, where you’ll find a Co-Operative Food, well-equipped for basic groceries and supplies. For something a little special, Highgrove Shop is also on the high street of the town, selling a selection of luxury organic foods and homeware inspired by Prince Charles’ nearby Highgrove Estate. A Tesco Superstore is also just a 10-minute stroll (or 2-minute car journey) from the cottage on London Road, with nearby Cirencester boasting a Waitrose and large Tesco Extra superstore.

Markets are held in the town centre every Wednesday and Saturday from 9am – 3pm.

Once one of the most prosperous wool towns in the country, Tetbury still remains a lively and popular hub of Cotswold commerce and appreciation. The central feature of the town is the Market House, built in 1655 when Tetbury was at the height of its wool trade, and designed for the sale of wool and yarn. To honour its past, every year on the last Bank Holiday Monday of May, Tetbury Woolsack Races are held, an age-old tradition that dates back to the 17th Century. The idea of wool sack racing was born from drovers who would run up a steep hill with a very heavy sack of wool in a bid to impress the local ladies! Men’s sacks weigh 60lb while women’s way 35lb, and they must carry their sack above their head as they run the 240-yard course up and down Gumstool Hill, past the old weaver’s cottages, as part of a relay. Although it’s free admission, with plenty of stalls, amusements and a fabulous street fayre, this event has raised a lot of money for charity in the past and is always hosted by a guest celebrity – watch this space!

Tetbury is also home to Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s country home and primary residence, Highgrove Estate. Although not open to the public, garden tours can be booked in advance online as well as numerous other events that take place at the stunning royal residence throughout the year.

Tetbury has a fantastic food scene, from gourmet dining at The Close Restaurant and pub cuisine at The Royal Oak and Snooty Fox, to delicatessen cafes galore such as Café 53 and The Blue Zucchini.
