The sunny apartment (45sqm) comfortably sleeps 4 people with king sized bed and double sofa bed, en-suite bathroom and a separate kitchen/dining room. House has private garden, bbq and storage barn. Free wifi and free parking across the street.
Hemingway House Holiday Apartments is a 19th century townhouse right in the centre of Kobarid which has been converted into 5 unique self-catering apartments for the budget yet style conscious traveller.
There is a very large free car parking place directly across the street from the house and another 4 free parking areas within a minutes walk of the house. I have left my own car there for years without any problems.
The Apartments have all been named after Ernest Hemingway's wives and this spacious apartment (45sqm) has been named after Mary...but for no other reason than my aunt Mary likes staying in this apartment
The room has a very comfortable queen sized bed (160 x 200) with antique bedside tables, located in an alcove of the main room.
In the rest of the room there is a double sofa bed, floor lamp, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, cabinet and coffee table. 2 wicker chairs can be added upon request if you would like to have additional seating.
The apartment has a wood burning stove in case you get chilly and has enough spare floor space to do exercises on the carpet or for small children who wish to play.
The room also has an en-suite bathroom which is quite spacious and extra large shower area (90 x 120) and shelves beside the sink for storing of toiletries.
The Kitchen / Dining area is located just outside this room.
The Kitchen has a 4 ring electric hob, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, Bodum French press and Bialetti coffee makers and cooking equipment and crockery for four people. There is also a set of plastic tableware suitable for children or picnics.
The Dining Table seats four people and is located next to the window.
The apartment is located at the front part of first (middle) floor of the house. It is accessed via a hallway off of the Upstairs Terrace. It has its own private lockable door. In this hallway is a place for storing muddy boots or shoes.
Guests staying for more than 3 days can do laundry at a cost of €2/load.
Breakfast is also available upon request at an added cost of €6/per person / per night. It consists of tea, coffee, hot milk, juice, fresh fruits, museli and corn flakes, yogurt, breads, meats, cheeses and a boiled egg. The breakfast can also be adapted to suit your (URL HIDDEN) apple juice vs. orange juice etc.
Hemingway House has two terraces from which to admire the stunning mountain views visible from them.
There is a large garden which has a BBQ and 2 picnic tables, as well as 3 sun loungers for you to relax on. And I've planted a herb garden and so guests can cook with fresh herbs.
To the rear of the property is a large secure barn where you can store larger sports equipment, kayaks, paragliders, bicycles etc. On the top floor, I would be more than happy to dry out wet clothes (and even tents) on your behalf.
Interaction with guests
I live at the house and I've been told on more than one occassion that I'm a fount of knowledge about the local area and what can be done here.
I have thoroughly explored my new homeland and the surrounding countries, particularly Italy, and I'm very happy to share my ideas of where to go etc with my guests.
Other things to note
The prices do not include the local tourist tax which costs €1.27 per adult and €0.63 per child (3 to 18).
If you are planning to come for 7 nights or longer it is always worth it to write to me...I like to make special offers for my longer term guests.
Hemingway House is located on a residential street, so I would appreciate if guests would keep the noise to a minimum after 10:30 pm in consideration of the neighbours and other guests. This is not a party house!
I am a Canadian who came to Slovenia on a holiday back in 2007 and feel in love with the beauty of the Soca Valley.
When I returned to London where I was living at the time, I decided that there had to be more to life than working 9 to 5 marketing a law firm. And spurred on by numerous property development programs I decided that I would be the one person alive who could move to a foreign country where I didn't speak the language and renovate a dilapidated house into a bed and breakfast without too much hassle, bearing in mind I had no DIY experience whatsoever.
Need we say things didn't go as planned but after two years I was able to transform a total ruin into a very liveable three bedroom house, in the lovely village of Ciginj, which is available for renting on this site.
Shortly after I finished renovating this house, a property in Kobarid became available and I decided to sell my house in Ciginj to a guest who stayed in the house and loved it and turn my hand at another renovation project.
Two years later, my vision was realised and Hemingway House is now open for business.
Along the way, I've made numerous great friends over here, improved my knowledge on how to renovate stone houses as well as the art of plastering, tiling, painting and whole host of other DIY skills.
I have just finished renovating a total ruin up in the picturesque village of Livek, which overlooks the Soca Valley, just above Kobarid into a magnificent farmhouse with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a massive open planned kitchen /living area, with a 45sqm terrace with a fantastic view of Krn which is also available for rent on this site.
I am living proof that you can realise your dream if you have the stupidity, courage and determination to see it through.
And, now I plan to have rest and go travelling once more come the autumn...through Turkey, Azerbijan, Armenia and Georgia.
