Pauline's apartment is naturally cool with a view of the garden from the room. It has a kitchen, en-suite bathroom and large storage closet. Guests also have exclusive access to the patio outside the room. Free wifi and free parking across street

The space

Hemingway House Holiday Apartments is a 19th century townhouse right in the centre of Kobarid which has been converted into 5 unique self-catering apartments for the budget yet style conscious traveller.

There is a very large free car parking place directly across the street from the house and another 4 free parking areas within a minutes walk of the house. I have left my own car there for years without any problems.

The Apartments have all been named after Ernest Hemingway's wives and this queen studio apartment (27sqm) has been named after his second wife Pauline.

This studio apartment (27 sqm) catches the afternoon and evening sun so is particularly bright and cheerful.

It has queen double bed, a wardrobe and chester drawers for storing of clothes.

The kitchen has a 3 ring electric hob, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, Bodum French press and Bialetti coffee makers, cooking equipment and crockery for two people. The Dining room table seats two.

The en-suite bathroom is has ample counter space for your toiletries and has a large storage closet for your luggage etc and a heated towel rail.

The room is located at the rear of the ground floor of the house and is accessed directly via the Downstairs terrace. It has its own private and lockable entrance.

Guests staying for more than 3 days can do laundry at a cost of €2/load.

Breakfast is also available upon request at an added cost of €6/per person / per night. It consists of tea, coffee, hot milk, juice, fresh fruits, museli and corn flakes, yogurt, breads, meats, cheeses and a boiled egg. The breakfast can also be adapted to suit your (URL HIDDEN) apple juice vs. orange juice etc.

I have tried to make this apartment a home away from home for guests and I wish you a very happy stay here in the Soca Valley.

Guest access

Outside Spaces

Hemingway House has two terraces from which to admire the stunning mountain views visible from them.

There is a large garden which has a BBQ and 2 picnic tables, as well as 3 sun loungers for you to relax on. And I've planted a herb garden and so guests can cook with fresh herbs.

To the rear of the property is a large secure barn where you can store larger sports equipment, kayaks, paragliders, bicycles etc. On the top floor, I would be more than happy to dry out wet clothes (and even tents) on your behalf.

Interaction with guests

I live at the house and I've been told on more than one occassion that I'm a fount of knowledge about the local area and what can be done here.

I have thoroughly explored my new homeland and the surrounding countries, particularly Italy, and I'm very happy to share my ideas of where to go etc with my guests.

Other things to note

The prices do not include the local tourist tax which costs €1.27 per adult and €0.63 per child (3 to 18).

If you are planning to come for 7 nights or longer it is always worth it to write to me...I like to make special offers for my longer term guests.

Hemingway House is located on a residential street, so I would appreciate if guests would keep the noise to a minimum after 10:30 pm in consideration of the neighbours and other guests. This is not a party house!

You must also acknowledge
Pet(s) live on property - My cat, Kit Kat lives in the barn. He is very shy so you are unlikely to have him come near you.
No parking on property - There is free parking directly across the street
Some spaces are shared - The garden and terraces are shared during the day.

Marie's place is really lovely - a large room with everything you need in the kitchen amd a lovely bathroom. The instructions to get in are clear and Marie was very helpful - offering us an iron when. We said we had a nice dinner booked. The apartments are very close to the shops and bars, and the town is very lovely. There are loads of walls and things to do around the area. We would highly recommend this room!

Marie was an excellent host! She was really friendly and helpful, giving us lots of tips and information on the best places to visit. She really made us feel welcome and met all our needs, including giving us a lift to our car one morning after a boozy meal the night before. The apartment itself was a bit dingy but was fit for purpose and the lovely garden and space to relax/dine outside made up for it being a bit dark. We had the breakfast twice which was great and very plentiful. Overall, our stay felt like good value for money and we would definitely stay again. We really loved Kobarid and all that the area has to offer. We enjoyed several hikes, a rafting trip, visits to both Lake Bohinj and Bled and also fitted in a visit to a beach before our flight home. We were lucky enough to go to Hisa Franko but also ate lovely food at the pizzeria in Kobarid and at Topli Val. We loved Slovenia so much and will definitely be coming back.

We stayed in this apartment for one night. Marie is a lovely host, and the the room was clean, with all the amenities required for a few days stay. The town is in a fantastic location to access the Soča River and Julian Alps. Parking was not on-site, but was located close-by in a safe and convenient public parking area. Upon arrival, there was a arts and food festival going on just outside, so Marie moved us to a slight different room to minimise noise disturbance (not that there was any!). All the rooms seem fairly identical so no problems here. The festival itself was enjoyable and by no means an issue. Would happily stay here again!

The flat is in the basement of the building and smells really strongly of damp. There are some issues with the drainage. Our shower was blocked and regurgitated dirt which turned the water a yellow-brown colour, and the sink gurgled throughout the night. We only received arrival instructions from Marie after several requests so make sure you make contact well in advance. Overall I have to say the flat was low quality compared to other similarly priced Airbnb's we stayed in in Slovenia. On the bright side, it is really well located and the pizzeria opposite is delicious.

Marie was extremely welcoming when we arrived in Kobarid and was always happy to give recommendations on day trips etc. Kobarid is a beautiful place. It has several bars and restaurants but also maintains the quiet village feel. So it was perfect for a relaxed week of walking in stunning countryside. The apartment was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. It could get quite damp, but Marie provides a de-humidifier so it wasn't really a problem. We would certainly stay again and would highly recommend the place to others.

I am a Canadian who came to Slovenia on a holiday back in 2007 and feel in love with the beauty of the Soca Valley. When I returned to London where I was living at the time, I decided that there had to be more to life than working 9 to 5 marketing a law firm. And spurred on b…
