Vilas is Madison’s historic and quiet neighborhood that is close to everything. This room is dedicated to AirBnB guests year-round and has tons of space, a very comfortable bed, and great privacy from the rest of the house. Guests love it because of the location, wide antique floor boards, all the great wood, the trees outside, and the nice light. Easy parking. Half mile to campus. 1.7 miles to Capitol. A few blocks to parks, lakes, and Monroe St. shops. Near bike rentals, bike paths and bus.

The space

Recently finished third floor walk-up attic of a Colonial house. Very private space with lots of room to spread out (about 500 sq ft). Accommodates up to four people with a comfortable double bed and a comfortable futon. Shared bath (with very friendly, clean, and quiet graduate students). Wi-fi. Plenty of grounded outlets, shelves, and a desk. Nice space to work, relax, or just crash. The floors are old, rustic wood, so you might want slippers. Towels and bed linens provided.

Guest access

The shower is shared with the household, but there is rarely ever any wait or hassle.

Guests typically do not use the kitchen, living room, or other common spaces, besides the upstairs bathroom. But there is ample room for hanging out in the large attic guest room, with the futon couch, and desk. It's a lovely space.

If you are coming for a football game, we hope that you have a great time! We ask that Airbnb guests do not bring additional people inside the house, and there is not space to tailgate. After 9pm, please close the doors quietly, walk softly, and keep conversations to a whisper while not in your room. This is our home and we ask that you please be considerate.

Parking on football days is tight. On game days I sell parking spots in my driveway for $25 each. The alternative is to park early on Friday night on the street when you can still get a spot and not move your car until after the game. (Early means 6 pm to get a spot with certainty, or 9-10 pm with less certainty and a good chance of walking several blocks.)

Interaction with guests

Kathryn will be happy to chat and answer any of your questions.

Other things to note

*There is no AC in the attic. There are fans in both windows creating a cross breeze in the summer, and a small heater for the winter.

Very spacious to floor with sloping ceilings and the risk of bumped heads. Bathroom (shared) is down private stairs through the office and into the landing. Handy table in the room for unpacking or work. Told host people expect a mirror in their room. There is none. There is one in the host's office! Or bathroom. Doubtless Kathryn will fix this. She is a lovely host and the sleeping area was very clean.

Kate is an amazing host and her home is a lovely place to stay. She responded to all my questions within the hour and during the stay she made sure that I had everything I needed. Thanks Kate!

We had a great stay with Kate. She was a helpful and charming host, providing recommendations of where to eat and things to do. Her (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) were great to talk to too. Kate's house is beautiful, in a lovely neighbourhood and within easy reach of the shops on Monroe Street; it was only a short walk to the University. Everything was exactly as described - if anything, the room feels a bit bigger than it appears in the photos. The beds were comfortable and Kate had thoughtfully left out lots of extra blankets for colder nights. All in all - it's a fantastic place to stay!

Great room and comfy bed, just as described. It was easy to keep cool with a fan in the window so air conditioning wasn't needed. Kathryn was very friendly and made everything easy for me, which was really appreciated as I had a very busy schedule. The house is also well placed and just a short walk to the campus. I would stay here again and hopefully next time I would have more time to get to know Kathryn!

Kathryn's place was perfect for our Badger football weekend. The location was walking distance to Camp Randall and other campus spots. Kathryn was very helpful during check-in and the room was comfortable for 4 adults. We would definitely stay here again!

Nice place. Great location. Shared bathroom on the second floor, so you have to walk downstairs to use it. Great, honest host
