Description

Enjoy a picturesque 15 minute drive to the Brimfield Antique Show! We are just 5 minutes to Staffordville Lake and 5 minutes to downtown Stafford Springs. Many acres of Wildlife Refuge and Parks just a stone's throw away from the Inn.

Our home is on the original town green and still boasts many of the original details from 1778. Our home has wide plank floors, hand carved chair rails, two of the bedrooms boast barreled ceilings and one a mullion window! Our prices are per room rates.

During the Brimfield show we provide a large continental buffet with "to go" bags and coffee cups for those that aspire to the sunrise opening at the show. If you are interested in a seated breakfast during the show we are happy to provide a hot breakfast as well upon request.

During the winter months we used two wood burning stoves that provide a warm, welcoming environment. While preserving the details from the 1700's we also provide modern amenities like free cable and WiFi. Our family loves to host guests and have had guests from as far as New Zealand, Dubai, Paris and Norway to name a few.

We also have hosted many local folks who love to get away from the quad cities that surround us. Hartford, CT , Boston, MA, Springfield, MA and NYC, NY are within 40 minutes to 3 hours from our home.

We are a family run New England get away rich in history and landscape in every season. Since we raise our three children in our historic home we also accept guest with children of all ages which is very rare in the B&B world. We hope you or perhaps you and your family will visit and become as enchanted by our quaint little town as we have grown!

Some of the decor in our home is for sale. I love to have a piece from our local antique shop rotating at the Inn to change up our decor. We also usually have a few photos for sale and maple syrup, of course! We have 5 sugar houses in town and love using and supplying their products!

We have two rooms routinely available and two others if we have a large party staying for a minimum of two nights or longer.

We also host small events and gatherings.

Hope to meet you soon!

We interact as much or as little as our guests want. On weekends my children are often the servers unless a guest would rather not interact with them. I discuss this upon making reservations and have found most travelers love interacting with our family run business. On occasion the kids and I are with my brother in Boston or New Hampshire and my husband will be your host. He is a Uconn professor and was "my waiter" when we met so I know the service is top notch whether I am here or not! If you are coming with children I often open our playroom to them based on their age. We accept and welcome all children!

We are in a rural setting with our neighbor's horses surrounding us. The two dirt roads that flank the inn are perfect for nature walks or bike rides. Not far from the inn there are trails for both hiking and mountain biking if you are looking for more challenging adventure.

Staffordville lake is only a 5 minute drive down the hill and is open to the public during summer months free of charge and after school hours all year long.

Our local pub J&D's has wonderful fish taco's and a signature burger that is on the CT Brew and Burger tour. Basil's restaurant is know for it's high quality, huge portions of italian and American cuisine and only a 5 minute drive.

We are also home to some of the best Barn Sales around especially during the Brimfield show! If you can come before the show I can direct you to some amazing finds at half the price!

Our most popular event is the Brimfield Antique Show which is held three times per year in May, July and September and is a mere 15 drive through lovely rural rolling hills and around spectacular Staffordville Lake.

Our downtown now boasts The Palace Theatre originally a Vaudeville destination with the pulley system still visible! It is an intimate setting and a wonderful way to enjoy live music or any one of the other live acts the Palace draws here.

Stafford Springs has become an artist community filled with studios and galleries as well as occasional street performers and drum circles during the summer months at our farmers market.

Downtown offers antique shopping, a thrift store for bargain finds, gift shops and a wonderful coffee shop with an organic flair! The shops of Stafford are hidden gems in our rural getaway. To name a few we have a vintage clothing store, Three Grace's, that have amazing finds at reasonable prices, an antique and oddities shop called Rustology that could consume you for days wondering through their vast store and warehouse just a few steps away from each other and many other charming shops including our latest addition, Sabor, an Olive Oil Tap Room and gallery!

Sturbridge Village a living history museum is an amazing place with the horse drawn carriage that used to stop right here at the inn! We are so lucky to have such a big part of our history forever preserved just a few miles away in a living museum.

We are rural so you will need to rent a car if you are flying here.

The Brimfield Show is only 15 minutes drive and many of our guests find staying here helps them to decompress from the frenetic pace at the market. We have stored and shipped things in the past for reasonable fees based on the size and duration of storage.

What an amazing place! The room was absolutely beautiful, even nicer than the pictures! Danele went out her way to make us feel comfortable and at home. She even showed us around Stafford Springs and gave us loads of suggestions of activities to do with my children in the area. My kids had a great time playing with her children, especially in the playhouse out back! The area is stunning, right next to the house there is a long dirt road that was perfect for a morning and evening walk through the woods. I would love to go back and explore the area further.

A lovely place to relax. The host Family were quite enjoyable and sensitive to our needs. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood quiet. We enjoyed a walk along a nice nearby dirt road. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful countryside location. Danele and her family were all incredibly welcoming and we enjoyed spending time with them. It really made us feel like we were at home. Danele's hospitality was above and beyond our expectations, it's just a shame we couldn't have spent more time at The Keepers Inn.

Fantastic B&B! Everything exceeded expectations and the history of the house and the area is really interesting.

Response from Danele:
We loved hosting Graham and his family! They were very interesting as many of our AirBnB guests tend to be with new business plans and a new baby on the way this family was very friendly, polite and easy to host! Would love to see them again anytime!!

Our families visit to this historic home B & B was as great as we expected. Danele was the perfect host for our large group (grandma, grandpa, sister in law, kids, nephew and his wife – the dog (just kidding) that had traveled to the area for our daughter’s graduation from college. What could have been an awful event giving the large family group instead turned out to be one of the most wonderful traveling experiences we have ever had. Being from California anything older than 50 years is historic, it was another experience to stay in a 230 year plus historic antique filled home that felt more like a close relatives home than a museum. We only wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area and visit more with Danele and her lovely family. Breakfast with local cheeses and homemade pancakes with real maple syrup were reason alone to stay there. Danele we thank you for the opportunity to stay in your place.

My family and I moved from urban Chicago to rural Connecticut in the summer of 2011 so that my husband could continue his career as an academic at the University of Connecticut. My main concern in making such a huge life change was how to feel connected to the rest of the world while living in a small provincial New England albeit it charming town. Well, it took some adjusting but we have settled into our New England Bed and Breakfast life quite well. Our guests have helped our family continue to feel a part of the global world in a similar way we had become accustom in our urban Chicago setting and our neighbors have welcomed us with open arms. We welcome children of all ages as we ourselves have three. Our home is unique in that is on the original town green and still boast many or the original details of the late 1770's such as wide plank floors, hand forged nails and barreled ceilings in two of our guest rooms.

We have had many guests over this past (almost year) many of whom have become good friends so we have adopted the previous Innkeeper's mantra, "You arrive as guests but leave as friends!" We hope to meet you soon.

Warmest Regards,
The Rhoads Family
