About this listing

A unique all-season, rustic space for personal and couple retreats and creative explorations. Retreats can be tailored designed by host with a menu of options such as meals, coaching, art play, and local activities. Minutes away from Gatineau Park and the village of Wakefield, Quebec. Mid-week and extended weekend specials occasionally offered at various times throughout the year.

The space

This beautiful, rustic facility, created out of a 100+ year old barn, is a perfect spot for a personal or couple retreat. It’s particularly well suited to writers, artists, and other creative types seeking time alone to unwind and focus on their craft.

The lower floor of the historic barn has been converted into a spacious yet cozy space in which to sleep, dine, stretch, work, and play.

This space is best suited to individuals or a couple. The sleeping, dining, and lounging area are all in one large open room. There are no separate rooms unless you count the deck.

I have a friendly, easy going cat that lives here. For three seasons he can stay outside if you prefer but in the winter months he tends to stay inside to sleep.

Mid-week specials and extended weekend rates possible. Get in touch!

Amenities include:
- One Queen-size bed (wall-bed, can be folded into wall when not in use)
- One double-bed futon couch
- Linens and towels supplied
- A kitchenette on site where you can make your own meals (fridge, small convection oven, 2 burner hotplate, microwave, slow cooker)
- Staples like herbs, spices, sugar, oil supplied. You bring any fresh food needed
- Private bathroom and shower
- Tables for working or art
- Yoga mats
- Musical instruments, art supplies, and a small library of books
- Telephone and internet access (limited usage)
- Outside covered deck with dining table, chairs, and propane BBQ
- There is a laundromat in Wakefield.

Guest access

Guests also enjoy exclusive use of the barn studio and deck, with access to the gardens and grounds surrounding the barn. The property is about half an acre in size, and is bordered by a creek, farm fields and forest. I have tenants renting the house at the front of the property so you share the driveway and grounds with them. (The house deck is just for the tenants. The large covered barn deck is just for you.)

Interaction with guests

I want to help my guests create custom retreat experiences. If you are interested in having home-cooked meals provided, or other services I offer (coaching, guided hikes and more), that can be arranged.

Other things to note

My friendly but independent cat Rafiki lives here. He spends most of his time outdoors except in the winter. I hope that you will feed and water him while you are here. If you are away for an extended period of time please let me know.

Amenity limitations - Wifi is available for emails and an occasional movie. No downloading please. Small hotwater tank so staggered showers may be necessary.

This is one peaceful sanctuary! We enjoyed cooling our feet in the pretty stream on the property and the only sounds heard were cows and loons from a nearby lake. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Linda is a lovely host

Water for drinking and cooking is provided, however tap water is non potable. Shower is in common area, not bathroom. Water heater is enough for one person, with a 45 minute wait to reheat water.

Response from Linda:
Well good thing you weren't here when I had a compost toilet and no running water! :) I certainly am sorry that you were too busy to connect when you first booked here Paul; we might have ascertained early that my 'Rustic Retreat", a renovated barn with it's share of quirks, would not be appropriate for you. Still, given our friendly conversations I had hoped that my releasing you from your commitment here - and refunding you fully for the four nights you chose not to stay - would have meant you would write the review you said you were going to write. To me you mentioned more than once that you enjoyed the serenity that you found here and thought that I had responded well to your needs, at least to the best of my abilities. You had written to me that you were quite happy with me just not the way Airbnb operated. Alas, Airbnb travel, and renovated old barns, are definitely not for everyone. I hope that you were / are more comfortable in the Holiday Inn now. Wishing you and Peggy a smooth transition to Canada. Sincerely, Linda

An absolutely amazing and relaxing stay. If you are looking for a gorgeous sanctuary to disappear to, this is the place. The lake is close by, and there is a beautiful creek that you can hear along with the birds chirp on a very peaceful deck, that if you are anything like me you will be on as long as possible :)

Linda was a great host. While we never officially met, she was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. She was quick to respond to emails and texts. The apartment was unique and suited our needs. The location was exactly what we were looking for to have a nice relaxing weekend.

Linda is very welcoming and her space is lovely and warm. Cat - Rafiki - delightful! We enjoyed our stay and appreciated her thoughtful touches to accentuate our time there. The space is quiet, a great place to meditate and relax. We will definitely be back !

I could speak hours about this experience. But I would only say it was perfect, simply, for real. The place is absolutely ideal for refreshing your batteries. Linda is adorable and Rafiki, the boss of the house, full of love. I thoroughly recommend this place. Thanks again for all Linda.

Response from Linda:
Thanks for your lovely words Michael. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay here. Do come back as soon as possible and stay longer if you can. There is so much an active guy like you could explore in this area. For sure I will let you know when I will next be in Europe...and possibly even Switzerland! :) PS Rafiki has had that 'bobble' for years. Another sign of his advanced age I guess but the vet says nothing to be worried about. Still, I appreciate your concern for him.

I work as a process consultant, facilitator and coach. I have over two decades of experience helping organizations and individuals tap into the wisdom they have inside to become more effective and satisfied in their work and their lives.

When I am not coaching or facilitating, I am usually found outdoors soaking up the beauty of the Gatineau hills, making music with friends or messing around with art.

Over the years I have done a fair amount of travelling, most notably in Europe and Eastern Africa. What has always been most precious about those experiences has been the people I have met and the stories we exchanged. I hope to welcome travellers from near and far to offer the same warm welcome they so often gave me.

As a host, I want to help each guest at Rendezvous Rupert to create a retreat experience that's tailored to their needs. I can draw on my own expertise as a life coach, expressive arts facilitator and outdoor guide, as well as a rich network of local contacts that includes chefs, body work practitioners, yoga instructors, and other professionals. I can also leave you in complete privacy to create your own experience.

Come and reflect, realign, and rejuvenate your spirit as best fits you!
