Our home is a quiet retreat surrounded by 41 acres of gardens, wetlands and forests on the shores of Fish Lake, a rare gem in the heart of Prince Edward County. A comfy bed and bedroom, delicious breakfasts in a 'museum' of Mia's art awaits you!

The space

(This is one of two rooms we offer, our second room can be found listed as Quiet Retreat on Fish Lake II. )

-This is a place where you can be central to much that Prince Edward County has to offer and also find peace and tranquility close to nature, listen to the symphony of Loons and Chorus Frogs at night, free of the cares of the world.

-Your room overlooks Fish Lake. It has a very comfy queen sized bed (new for 2015), desk and a new cosey sitting/reading room.

-A 3 piece washroom, down the hall, is only shared with guests in our other room and another washroom is available on the main floor. To reserve the washroom for yourself you can book both rooms together. During the quieter Winter times, you will find that most likely you have the shared washroom to yourself. If this is important to you, ask us first.

-If you have stair climbing problems, be aware that your room is up one flight of stairs.

-There is a small fridge either in the common room or on the main floor for your use.

-The common room is generally available to relax in (there are some games in it) or you may use the main floor living-room, or the deck.

-The kitchen is NOT available for making meals in, but you may use the microwave to heat food up.

Guest access

- You are welcomed to make our home your home while visiting, we are easy going and friendly, and are happy to assist you in finding exciting places in the County to visit which are all within a short driving distance.
- You may enjoy canoeing Fish Lake (our canoe, or bring your own), walking along the wetlands shore trail through our pine plantation and mixed hardwood forest on 41 1/2 acres, or just bird watching from our award winning deck, featured on the cover of Canadian Workshop Magazine.
In the summer months we will put up a screened bug tent to relax and read in, in the forest by the lake.
- We include a home cooked breakfast, with a variety to choose from including Robert's homemade maple syrup, but if you have special requirements, please let us know. If you wish to sleep past 9am, you are welcome to make your breakfast whenever you get up, we will leave the fixings out for you.
-The kitchen is NOT available for making meals in, but you may use the microwave to heat food up and to eat in.
- There is lots of parking out front of the house.
- We stock lots of brochures and maps of area and local attractions, bicycle tour maps.
-Fire-pit, cut and split firewood, and marshmallows for roasting $10 per use (can decide when you get here and pay before leaving)
- WIFI throughout the house.
- All hugs are free!

Interaction with guests

-We love sharing our home with guests, but respect your privacy. We usually will have breakfast together or you can have it alone.
-Mia is always happy to show you around her studio, view her artwork (which is also available to purchase) and we have a gift room of her work as well. Ask about private art lessons too.
-We have 1 dog, a bird and 1 ferret. Siri, our dog (born Oct 2014), is a rare breed French Spaniel who loves everyone (also seldom barks). Our ferret Felix is confined during your visit and Eden is our Rosy Bourke pink parakeet, a quiet, super friendly little fellow who will follow you around on your shoulder if you let him. Our pets are not allowed in the guest rooms, and we are always happy to confine our pets if you don't wish any interaction with them, (within limits because they live here too).

Other things to note

A minimum of 2 nights stay requested on weekends during the peak season Jul-Sept

We love kids but our home is not suitable for hosting small children unless you book both rooms together. Please check out our other listing if you need a second room : Quiet Retreat on Fish Lake II

No scented fragrances are used and very limited use of any chemical cleansers throughout the house.

If you plan on walking any distance in the forest in summer, bring bug spray and hat and shoes that cover toes and feet.

No smoking in the house...but then you knew that!

Bring your own beach towels please, we do not supply them.

-if you use the kitchen (only for re-heating food and eating it), please leave it in the condition you found it.
-tap water is drinkable
-we are on a well so the water supply is not unlimited although we have not run out of water we ask that you be mindful of that when showering
-it's helpful if you let us know what you want for breakfast the night before
-breakfast is usually served 8:30-9am, if you want it earlier, let us know. If you want it later, we'll leave it out for you to make when you get up
-you can park anywhere there is gravel
-the doors are not locked so you can come and go as you please, and there is no curfew
the house is air conditioned -but leaving the doors and windows open and the bathroom fan on leaves the air conditioner struggling to cool the house. We usually keep the thermostat at 23C . There is a fan in your room for your use but please keep the windows closed on hot days and always when leaving for the day.
-there is a heater in your room if it's too cold.
-there is a garbage receptacle in the washroom to dispose of all feminine hygiene supplies, do not flush them down the toilet
ask us for the life jackets if going in the canoe, the paddles and safety kit are with the canoe.

Thanks so much to Mia and Robert (and animals!) for a lovely restful stay, a good night's sleep, and an excellent breakfast ... just sorry we couldn't stay longer. Description and pictures all accurate. Communication fast, friendly and helpful. Lots of peace and quiet to enjoy and delightful grounds, and Prince Edward County is really charming. What's not to like?!

My first B&B and it will probably not be the last. Had an excellent stay at Mia's and enjoyed the area, the company, and great breakfast. Very quiet and accommodating host. Anyone would be happy to have the opportunity to stay at Mia's B&B and chat with both Mia, Robert, and other guests she might have staying during the same time period.

We had a lovely stay with Mia and Robert. We really enjoyed our stay. The view on the lake is beautiful. The breakfast with Robert's mapple sirup was perfect.

The room was clean, roomy and has a great view of the lake. The location is quiet and there are trails that one can discover and hike. I did not have the time to use the canoe or kayak which were available. The pets - dog, bird and ferret were quite entertaining and friendly. Mia is a great host and very friendly and helpful.

Mia User ProfileMia is a superhost.

We are excited to have you visit Prince Edward County and be our guest, and know you'll have a great time! It's a fascinating place to visit and to live! Robert and I have lived here for 18 years and in the area for another 11 years, so if you are new to the County, we can help you find things to do. We both have really enjoyed meeting and chatting with all our interesting guests from around the world, and strive to make sure that all our guests feel relaxed and right at home during their stay with us.
I am a professional fine artist, and specialize in painting dogs and animals. I also love anything creative...like gardening. If you search Mia Lane Art you'll see some of it as well as all over our walls! Robert and I love watching birds and see many right from our windows as well as other wildlife. We don't get out canoeing often enough.
During the winter, Robert is busy making Maple Syrup from our Maple trees, cutting wood for the furnace or working in his workshop. He looks after the vegetable garden, I generally do the flower beds.
We welcome you as our guests!
