About this listing
This cozy "cottage" is one of two attached apartments behind our house, 250 feet from Sarasota Bay. The private fenced backyard with deck and the comfortably furnished screen porch provide opportunities to enjoy Florida's great outdoor weather.
Our cozy, comfortable apartment is tiled throughout except the bedroom which
has new carpeting. The tiled screen porch is a lovely location for dinner or morning coffee or use your private deck or patio for enjoying a little sun in the winter. There are fresh herbs growing in the garden to use for cooking and you might find fresh bananas in your garden as well.
Guests will have access to our front yard for watching sunset or just enjoying the breeze off the bay. Our two Hobie pedal, paddle, or sail kayaks can be available with arrangement ahead of time. Also, a man's and a woman's Jamis Bike can be made available.
Interaction with guests
I am a retired environmental scientist and love talking with people and sharing my experiences on Sarasota Bay and the local birding, biking, hiking, or kayaking venues. Carmen is still actively working in her nursing career and really enjoys reading, photography, biking, birding, or kayaking on her days off. She enjoys chatting with everyone on her three day weekends but after a 10-12 hour shift of nursing may not be up to socializing.
Other things to note
A small, quiet pet may be acceptable, let's discuss it.
No smoking in the cottage, please close the door if smoking is necessary on the lanai. Beach towels are provided for outdoor use. No barking dogs are tolerated in our neighborhood.

I'm a retired environmental scientist and have spent much of my career studying, and helping to restore and protect Sarasota Bay. I enjoy using the bay for fly fishing, kayaking, birding, or just watching our spectacular sunsets. I also enjoy gardening, cooking, mushroom farming, and camping with my wife Carmen at our rustic cabin on the Myakka River.
