The space
Our accommodation consists of 2 double bedrooms, called Owl (king size bed) and Wren (double bed). We can sleep a maximum of four people. The larger double room, Owl, has a compact en-suite shower room. The smaller double room, Wren, does not have an en-suite and shares the shower room in Owl. Therefore the suite is only suitable for family or friends who are happy to share facilities and access each other’s rooms.

Minimum age for our younger guests is 12 years

If your booking is for 2 people but you wish to use both rooms for single occupancy, there will be an extra charge of £40 per night to cover the cost of cleaning and laundry.

PLEASE NOTE - We don’t let the rooms as separate units. Therefore if your booking is for just one or 2 people, the other bedroom will remain unoccupied during your stay and will not be let to others. If you are unsure of the layout, please contact us to discuss.

A light breakfast is included in the room price (fruit juices, yogurt, cereals, fruit, toast, unlimited tea/coffee.
We offer additional items such as full Cumbrian breakfast, smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, vegetarian cooked breakfast, homemade waffles etc for an additional cost.

Guest access
The Landing has comfortable sofas and great views where you can curl up with a book and a cuppa or play a board game. Binoculars provided to watch the wildlife…

During your stay
Check in is strictly from 4pm, please. As there are no cafes or amenities nearby we suggest that you plan your day to ensure you arrive at 4pm or later.

We live on the premises and will welcome you in person. If the weather isn’t too good and you have wet gear/boots, we’ll dry them for you, ready for the next day.

Chilled filtered water, fresh milk and a range of teas and coffee plus biscuits await you in your room with a view and the comfiest bed!

If you’re not eating with us we’re happy to advise on local pubs and restaurants and book a table for you. We’ll also drive you to your chosen restaurant for a small charge but you will need to arrange your own taxi to return.

Please see our attached guidebooks for further details on how to contact us, how to find us, places to eat and places of interest. But if you’ve any questions please ask away!

We live in the cottage so we will always be on hand during your stay to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible.

Other things to note
Howgill Cottage is our home where we offer 2 of our bedrooms to guests. We’re not a self catering cottage or hotel or large-scale B&B. Our rooms are compact and there isn’t a huge amount of space for luggage and personal belongings. We are geared to welcome walkers and hope to provide everything a walker needs to rest and refresh before continuing their Wall adventure!

We are situated at the end of a farm track which is bumpy and uneven in places and can be muddy. If you are arriving by car or motorbike please take extra care. If your car is your pride and joy, we may not be the destination for you..

If using public transport please note there is no bus service here. Details of transport and taxis are included in our guidebook
