About this listing

A private room in a fantastic warehouse loft in Bermondsey near Tower Bridge – exposed brick walls, high ceilings, wooden beams, cast-iron windows, railway arches and roof terrace. Total area 140 sq.m. Continental breakfast is included. Excellent transport: Bermondsey Jubilee Line (6 mins walk) and good bus routes.

The space

A private room in a fantastic huge warehouse loft in Bermondsey, near Tower Bridge – exposed brick walls, high ceilings, wooden beams, original cast-iron windows, railway arches and private roof terrace. Continental breakfast is included in the rate.
Jubilee Line zone 2 is only 6 mins walk away.

This is a stunning place to stay with exposed brickwork, high ceilings, wooden beams and floors, and original cast-iron warehouse windows; the cobbled courtyard, 19th century railway arches and a private roof terrace add to the character of the building, and there's a friendly community of printmakers and designers who work in the studios on the lower floors.

The bedroom now has a new double bed and new fitted carpet, and is furnished with antique pine furniture. The bathroom was installed in 2012. There are feather pillows and feather duvets, and all bed linen and towels are provided.

From the private roof terrace there are views of Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, the CIty of London, Battersea Power Station and the iconic Shard. The South Bank's variety of cultural activities, the West End, Westminster, historic Greenwich, achingly trendy Shoreditch and Spitalfields, and quiet riverside walks are all within easy reach.

The apartment consists of an open-plan living room and kitchen, music room, entrance hall and stairs leading up to the terrace overlooking the railway lines – the first passenger railway ever built, the 1836 London to Greenwich line. There is obviously some noise from passing trains but, as you can see from my reviews, it has never been a problem for anyone.

The building itself used to be a textile warehouse, dating from the turn of the century and is located in a friendly, vibrant neighbourhood. A market, an excellent 24-hour grocery/deli/bakery, major supermarket chains, pharmacies, a Post Office, pubs and bars and the large open spaces of Southwark Park and the Thames riverside walks are close by.

On Saturdays from 9am-4pm numerous artisan food producers open to the public in the railway arches near Spa Road and Dockley Road (only a couple of minutes walk away) – think Borough Market but without the tourists and pushchairs! Search the web for Spa Terminus for more information, but some of the producers include:

• Monmouth Coffee Company
• Neals Yard Dairy and locally produced Bermondsey cheeses
• The Ham and Cheese Company (salame, prosciutto, mozzarella, salsiccie)
• superb organic butchers and greengrocers
• The Little Bread Pedlar bakery/patisserie
• The Bermondsey Honey Company

James and Ben are amazing hosts! There flat was extremely clean and beautiful. Upon my arrival they were extremely helpful explaining the tube to me and getting me to my first evenings plans (Guns and Roses) without a single hiccup. Staying for the full week they always made sure I had fresh towels or linens if I needed them. I don't think I would've been able to see half of the things I did without them! Absolutely recommend staying with them, I know if I ever find myself in the UK again I certainly will.

James and Benjamin's place is comfortable, private, and conveniently located. They are wonderful hosts who made our stay very memorable. The accommodations are very modern, clean and well-kept and provided everything we needed. James and Benjamin were also very generous with information and advice about traveling around London and the neighborhood. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

This apartment is amazing! You won't be disappointed. It's beautiful, sunny, airy, contemporary and very spacious. James and Ben are incredibly welcoming and easy to chat to. Make sure to have the freshly baked bread in the morning - I cut myself one giant lopsided slice and wasn't even sorry for it. Wish I could have spent some time upstairs in the balcony. Beware those with heavy luggage or poor mobility as you will have to walk up the stairs to the top floor.

We stayed at James and Benjamin's place for the weekend and is was perfect. Benjamin was there to let us in and showed us around. It all looked very beautiful and the room and bathroom have everything you'll need. We slept like a baby, the sound of trains didn't disturb us. Benjamin and James took care for our breakfast needs in the morning (homemade bread, yoghurt and cereal, fruit etc.). We felt like home and on vacation at the same time. The communication in the weekend was excellent. We could ask for anything. They're very nice people, it was very ' gezellig' as the dutch will say. We'll definitely visit them again and highly recommend a stay at there place.

I have never stayed in a private room (as opposed to renting the whole flat/house) before since I feel like it would be weird and uncomfortable to stay with strangers. Staying with James and Benjamin was neither! The bedroom and bathroom were immaculate, the view from the terrace was beautiful, breakfast each morning was provided, and the flat is a short walk to the nearest tube station. The flat is located very close to train tracks, however the noise from passing trains did not bother us at all. James and Benjamin could not be better hosts - they made our stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible, even helping us figure out the best way to Kings Cross during rush hour. Wonderful hosts and fantastic flat!
