The space
Nestled in the serene 9 acre site of FINGLEN, The Captain's Rest offers a unique escape from the distractions of modern life. This hand-built, off-grid woodland cabin is a haven, where memories are crafted with a backdrop of the soothing sounds of nature.
Here, you can unwind on a generous veranda, sipping drinks while birds serenade you and the gentle flow of the river accompanies your thoughts. With a hot, outdoor double-ended bathtub the experience is nothing short of idyllic, inviting you to soak under the starry sky or enjoy the warm glow of the setting sun.
Whether you choose to spend a weekend or an entire month, the cabin is equipped with every amenity to ensure your comfort and enjoyment.
The Cabin
The Captain's Rest effortlessly blends modern luxury with rustic charm. Accommodating two guests, it features a king-size bed, complete with a cleverly hidden storage drawer. The cabin has an indoor bathroom equipped with hot running water, a shower, and an eco composting toilet, ensuring both comfort and eco-friendliness. Heated via a wood-burning stove and a towel radiator in the bathroom, warmth is always at hand, allowing you to feel cozy even on the chilliest of nights. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a microwave, electric hob, toaster, kettle and fridge / freezer. There is also a small oven and hob as part of the wood burning stove. We include board games and books so that you can enjoy activities away from modern distractions.
Outdoor
The outdoor experience at FINGLEN is undeniably enchanting. The expansive veranda serves as an ideal space for al fresco dining or simply soaking in the tranquility of your surroundings. At dusk, the breathtaking sunsets over the river offer a visual delight, while the outdoor bathing experience provides a unique twist. Enjoy a hot bath while enjoying the scenery of the wildflower meadow and glistening water.
Eating
Prepare meals with ease in a well-equipped kitchen that includes both a woodfired oven and hob, as well as an electrical alternative for warmer days. Whether you are lounging indoors or enjoying your meal under the vast Highland sky, it will be memorable.

Strategically situated, The Captain's Rest is your gateway to exploring Glasgow, Edinburgh or Stirling and the enchanting Highlands. Outdoor enthusiasts can venture into the nearby woods for peaceful walks or challenge themselves with breathtaking mountain climbs. We are in a brilliant spot if you enjoy wild swimming or you may just want to stay in the cabin and watch the birds and stars / listen to the nature at hand.

Finglen Cabins is meticulously maintained for your safety and comfort. Professional cleaning ensures that each experience is as fresh and welcoming as the last, allowing you to focus solely on relaxation and enjoyment.

Guest access
Guests can access the whole cabin exclusively for their use.
There is a designated parking space for the cabins and this is where the path begins for your stay.
The car park is the beginning of your woodland path adventure. Trolleys and a torch will be provided to help move your belongings to your new home.
From the car park it is 50 m walk to Captain's Rest. We advise to bring wellies or hiking boots in case the path is muddy.
Other things to note
We are purposely no WIFI. This is to enable guests to slow down, there is however 4G signal should you need it.
A starter pack of firewood and firelighters is included in the price. This will be enough for your first night. Please bring more or if you would like to purchase more from us you can pay £20 to have access to the wood shed. Just email to request this.
For insurance purposes, only adults over 25 years old can be hosted. ID verification is required on all bookings.
Please bring appropriate footwear for the cabin path on your arrival.
Please note that there is one other cabin in the meadow. It is over 50 metres away, shielded by greenery and they face away from each other to maintain privacy.
