Charmingly restored 1880's farmhouse, perfectly central to a great P.E.C. experience, on a stream in the heart of beautiful Cherry Valley. Only 5-10mins from Sandbanks, Picton, Bloomfield, Vicki's Veggies, Black River Cheese and so much more!
3 bedrooms, a full bath downstairs, a half bath upstairs; on the main floor is a large kitchen, living room, piano, library, and dining table.
There's a big yard with rolling hills, a stream lazily flowing nearby, a few hammocks, and access to food from our seasonal gardens (herbs, greens, tomatoes, raspberries!). You're welcome to tour our developing barn/studio, and say hello to our cuddly cats Orson and Hibou too - they stay in the barn.
There's no TV, but everything else: WIFI, lots of books, board games, full kitchen. The house is older (1880's), and thus it has character, in a good way (we think). A cleaner comes through before each guest to ensure the space is in great shape.
We bought the property in 2012 and have been fixin'er'up - slowly but surely. You'll see some fruits of our labours to date, notably some reclaimed hardwood floors and ceilings. Over 50% of each year's Air BnB rental income goes toward renovations, and guests often return to see the updates.
You have access to the entire yard, BBQ, fire pit, and the entire house. If you'd like to hang out in the barn (some people have done so to paint or play music), just ask.
Interaction with guests
Myself and/or my partner Tess will likely be on site while you're visiting, as we have a small private suite off the back of the house (separate entrances for you and us). We're a young filmmaking couple who appreciate guests seeking a quiet, inspiring natural getaway, not a huge group party (though we will take requests!). Families are welcome. Sometimes we're busy or travelling with work, but we're always happy to direct you to great spots to eat, drink, and have fun in the county.
Other things to note
You can use our Ontario Provincial Park pass, which is good for one car's parking at any provincial park ($18 value). The closest are: Sandbanks (5mins), North Beach (30mins, just past Welllington), and Presqu'ile Provincial Park (45mins).
Re: Outlet Beach (part of Sandbanks Provincial Park), on a few tourist sites you'll see true reviews like this:
The Outlet Beach is a long sandy beach in a large bay where the water gets deep only very gradually. This makes it the most popular swimming and family play beach. The shallow water warms quickly and is sandy underfoot. If the towering trees that grow adjacent to the beach were palm trees, you could easily believe you were in the Caribbean.
Richardson's is a bit more secluded and just as cool, and Dunes is fairly mind-blowing. It's that cool!
BOARD GAMES and BOOKS and a PIANO
We have lots of board games and books to take up your time inside, if the weather is bad. We also have a piano! And we have one rule: if you know how to play piano, you can play the piano. We LOVE music, but kids banging on the keys at 7am is not the music we love. Just sayin'.
We will supply each room with bedding and pillows, as well as two shower towels for the duration of your stay. Please bring your own beach towels and try to keep sand out of the house when possible.
Feel free to park closer to the house to unload your luggage/food/etc., but please keep your car parked in the little back lot next to the barn.
It's possible to have a fire outdoors in our firepit by the creek, but ask us about having the fire first, so we can take any precautions necessary. If there is a burn ban, no fires are allowed in PEC.
Pets are often welcome, but you must tell us what kind of pet it is before you book, and we typically charge an extra $25 (per pet) for cleaning purposes.
Lastly, if you are a RETURNING GUEST, message us and we'll give you discount!
