About this listing
White Cloud House is a 114 year old Kansas farmstead, operated as a private retreat house. In the middle of the country, it offers guests a classic experience of rural Americana, complete with modern conveniences and paved road access.
The Orange Room is a bright room with queen sized bed, writing desk and beautiful views to the south and east. (Also checkout the Red Room https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1346940 and The Green Room https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1336042)
Our location here in rural Northeast Kansas, where we experience the brilliant seasonal changes (cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers), is perfect for guests who seek to truly 'get away from it all'.
The farmhouse was built in 1900 and the massive three level barn in 1915, giving a true glimpse into the past of rural America. The chickens provide farm-fresh eggs and the resident rooster serves as a natural alarm clock.
In addition to their private rooms, guests have access to the guest common room / library that is on the second floor by the bedrooms. In addition there are two shared bathrooms, dining room, front parlor, wireless internet, washer / dryer, all of the grounds (gardens, porches, walking paths in the pasture) and, of course, miles of open country roads for walking, cycling, and horseback riding.
Pets are allowed in some circumstances. White Cloud House has a dog and a cat that are both indoor/outdoor pets.
If you are traveling with horses or hunting dogs we have plenty of open space for trailers / kennels.

I am the owner and founder of White Cloud House LLC which is my retreat house in rural Northeast Kansas and business through which I provide retreats, life & business coaching, spiritual direction, and pastoral counseling services, as well as published retreat materials. I host individuals and groups for directed and private retreats.
At White Cloud House you may participate in retreats that I lead / guide for you or a small group OR you may come and enjoy our hospitality (room and board) while you relax and do your own thing here in the countryside. As well, I lead a variety of programs that are conducted via tele-conference and the Internet.
In addition to education and work in pastoral counseling and spiritual direction, I am also a librarian and archivist by training and have worked for both non-profits and the federal government in this capacity. However, my true calling has always been to help others find inner peace, healing, growth, and expansion.
I am well traveled and speak just enough Spanish, French, and Italian to be dangerous. I attended university in Europe for four years and fell in love with the agri-turismo model that they have (simple accommodations in the countryside) and I am working to provide something like that here at White Cloud House.
White Cloud House is also home to Joe, a Boxer-Lab who is one and a half years old. He is our very efficient watch-dog and also every guest's best friend. He loves hanging out with you on the porch and going for walks down the dirt roads. As well, we have Grace, the cat, who is the perfect retreat house feline in that she's quiet, usually wants to be alone, and occasionally likes to sleep on your lap or at your feet while you read or visit so you can scratch her head.
We have several walking paths and benches on our five acres of lawns, orchard, and pasture, for taking in views of the countryside. As well, we have several miles of back country roads immediately accessible for walking / running / cycling. These roads provide beautiful views of the rolling glacial hills of Northeast Kansas and, at some points, the views extend to Nebraska and Missouri (both just five miles away). We are four miles from the White Cloud Casino which is operated by the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska and five miles from the historic village of White Cloud that sits on the Missouri River (access ramps are available for water goers).
White Cloud House is 75 minutes from Kansas City International Airport and is accessible on paved roads from various major highways.
