A humble heritage cottage built in 1833. The fireplace keeps the cottage warm during the cold winters. The house has been restored and carefully curated with a collection of vintage and antique pieces which speak to the varied history of the cottage. Outdoors is rustic but charming. The grass is overgrown to encourage insects and small animals, forgive the disheveled appearance. We love to step back in time; no TV, WiFi, microwave or dishwasher! We recommend turning off & tuning out.

The space
Cross the sandstone verandah and enter through the original front door. Step into the cosy living room with wood heater (please read instructions prior to use), pour a whisky and settle into the comfy leather sofa. The master bedroom is to the left with a squeaky antique bed. The second bedroom, on the right has 2 single antique hospital beds, both quite high and a little squeaky too. To the rear is the kitchen and dining room. The bathroom has a restored clawfoot bath for you to luxuriate in. There is plenty of electric heating for the colder months. Through the rear door is a huge rustic paved area and yard with outdoor seating to enjoy the warmer days. The combustion stove can be used if you're knowledgeable about their use. The fireplace in the bedroom is decorative only and not operational. Wood for the fireplace is supplied and can be found in the wood shed out the back. Please note that there is no wifi, television, dishwasher or microwave; we’re all about tuning out of the modern world and stepping back in time. Laundry facilities are available to guests with prior arrangement. Bothwell has limited fresh food and grocery stores. I advise purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries before you arrive. I can recommend Hill Street Grocers in Hobart.

Bothwell is in Tasmania's beautiful central highlands off the usual tourist route and, as such, not the usual amenities; it is a true rural working town. It was settled by farmers in the 1820s and still has a distinctive colonial character and old-world atmosphere today. Bothwell is a charming quintessential Aussie town, full of character and is authentic, a true representation of of the characters who reside here.

More than 50 buildings in Bothwell are heritage-listed for their architectural and historical value, so take a stroll along the wide streets and enjoy the details of built treasures that range from simple stone cottages to grand, elegant churches.

For those interested in golf, Bothwell is home to one of the oldest golf courses in Australia at Ratho. Laid in the mid-1830s, the course has square putting greens and fairways maintained by grazing sheep. You can even play a round with traditional hickory clubs.

Locals and visitors also come to the nearby lakes, rivers and reserves to fly fish for the elusive brown trout and hunt for game.

There are world famous whisky distilleries for those who like a nibble and a tipple, too. Walk through the lovey village green and onto Sealys for a delicious morning tea or lunch.

I recommend purchasing your fresh food and groceries before arriving as there is limited fresh supplies in Bothwell.
