About this listing
Blåbaerli is a 700 s.f. one bedroom hideaway on 70 acres of blueberry fields and pine forest. Hiking/skiing trails abound. Worldclass trout stream nearby. Wifi available, although slow. The energy efficient building has a b.r. with double bed and possible cot, daybed and trundle in main room. LGBT friendly
The building is an efficient passive solar design, with in-floor heat and a Jøtul wood stove for backup when needed. Large south facing windows provide warmth in the winter, deep eaves protect from direct sun in summer. Summer cooling is seldom required - due to the large overhang.
The building is 700 s.f. with 9' ceilings and includes a partial-kitchen (microwave, toaster oven, electric skillet & other small appliances, induction burner and a few pots, blender, coffee maker, refrigerator and sink), shower in bathroom.
Towels and bedding provided.
Gas grill on side deck, Fire pit in back. All new construction 2011.
Interaction with guests
We live across the deck and are accessible, but will be out of the way.
Blåbaerli means blueberry field in our ancestral Norwegian. And we are nestled in acres of wild blueberries and red pine/tamarack/aspen forest.
There are ca. 4 miles hiking/snowshoeing/skiing trails on the property and a worldclass trout fishing stream is nearby. But nature is not all... we are located 30 min by car from Duluth/Superior and all the delights of Lake Superior.
We keep bees on the property.
There are bus routes (Jefferson Lines) to Solon Springs, WI - 10 mi and Duluth, MN -25 mi. With advance notice, we could pick you up at the bus station.
Other things to note
Base price is for two occupants, $10/night for each additional person, but no extra charge for children.
We have rubber boots and strap on snowshoes to loan, and if the boot size is right - classic XC skiis, too. Other outdoor gear potentially available too.
No smoking inside the buildings.
Be respectful of the building and its contents.

I am a teacher of teachers, and mother of young adults. I have traveled through much of USA, also to Mexico, Canada, Caribbean islands, Norway, Sweden, France, Italy. Je parle le Français, un peu. Jeg snakke en liten Norsk , også.
I enjoy cooking, wine, music of all genre (except acid rock, sorry) art museums, reading, wandering about in new places. One of my favorite things to do in a new place is to visit a grocery store and wander neighborhoods.
When hosting people, I try to include them in the daily life, helping them to feel a part of things. As a traveler, I only use carry-on luggage and try to live simply.
