About this listing
Spacious Brooklyn, Crown Heights 2BR apartment on the 3rd floor (elevator building), 1/2 block from subway and 10 minute walk from Botanic Gardens and Brooklyn Museum.
Please contact us before sending a reservation request, as we have too many variables to always keep our calendar 100% accurate.
Next available chunk of time is late October/November, 2017.
Experience the heartbeat of Brooklyn in our very spacious third floor 2BR apartment in a historic elevator building. Stroll down the world's first parkway along tree-lined brick pathways to the Brooklyn Museum (.6 mile), Botanic Gardens! (.6 mile) and the famous Prospect Park (.7 mile).
It's hard to believe these lovely, wide open spaces exist only 1/2 block from the 3 train at Nostrand Avenue (or 2 blocks from the 2/5 at President, or 2.5 long blocks to the 4/5 at Franklin), making Times Square a mere 40 minutes away.
Traditionally West Indian, the neighborhood of Crown Heights is quickly attracting trendy restaurants and shops like its chic neighbor across the park, Park Slope and the thriving neighborhood next door, Prospect Heights. Experience the best Caribbean food in the city, and nearby Thai, Mexican, Indian, Italian, New Orleanian, American and many others, as well as a grocery store on virtually every block. You will not go hungry in our neighborhood!
With two living-room sized rooms, two full bedrooms and thick walls in 1000+ square feet, there is plenty private space to stretch out at the end of your day of sight-seeing. The second bedroom is a massage practice while we're here - there are essential oils used in the room while you're gone and the room will probably contain some small amount of residual aroma, nestled in a peaceful ambiance. (If you know you are sensitive to such scents, let us know and we will take extra measures to put anything aromatic away - if you're extremely sensitive, this room may not be for you.)
You get the entire, five room apartment. It includes:
1 King Bed in BR #1 (Foam)
1 Queen - high quality - futon sofa (not your average futon - it's nice visco-elastic foam, convoluted foam, etc.) in BR #2
1 Full-ish (58" x 71") pull-out sofa in living room (new in 2017, more comfortable than most pull-out sofas, 5.5" mattress.)
Private bathroom w/ shower/tub
Full kitchen (includes extras like a countertop dishwasher, espresso maker, soda stream, blender, food processor - if interested in using a particular one of these check ahead to make sure we didn't take it with us.)
32" HD TV, Blu-Ray player, Roku, Netflix
Coffee/espresso maker, coffee grinder
True to the original Airbnb tradition, we do live here, which means if you stay in our home you are not taking housing away from every day New Yorkers who need it. Rather, by hosting you, we are able to stay in our home. Our personal belongings do stay here when we travel. Please let us know if you have storage needs beyond 2 luggage racks, a few hanging items, and a couple drawers, and we can clear out some more drawers or closet space for you. With over 1000 square feet, there are always also several chairs, a mostly empty desk (or two) and lots of floor space, etc. to place your luggage on.
Note that one room (the first you will walk into) is an active photography & design studio, and should be considered a "bonus room." It will usually have some artwork in progress around the perimeter and won't be as "buttoned up" as the rest of the apartment. In that room we will always clear the desk enough to use a laptop (which is desk space in addition to the desk in the living room) and floor space to pass through, and maybe set up a folding table if you'd like some extra horizontal space. We don't have a big dining room table, but do have several small folding tables for your use if needed.
Also please note: due to new recent laws regarding home sharing in NYC, we can no longer accept reservations for less than 30 days for the entire apartment, but we can do shorter reservations for renting just the 2nd bedroom (with kitchen access, of course). Please contact us for details.
Is there street noise? Three rooms of the apartment (Bedroom #1, living room and studio) face Eastern Parkway, a pretty major thoroughfare, while the kitchen and second bedroom face the alley/inner building and are both those rooms are very quiet. In terms of noise in the front rooms, while Eastern Parkway is a busy street, the third floor location and many trees along the wide walking path (the order from street to apartment goes: Eastern Parkway, trees, walking path, more trees, access street, front yard, then our building) dampen noise from passing cars quite a bit, and the windows are also thick and surprisingly fabulous at blocking sound from below. So there isn't much, especially for New York. Also occasionally in summer months people gather on the sidewalk nearby and chat. From the front rooms you can hear them when their conversation gets lively. Running the A/C or a fan pretty much completely shuts out both kinds of noise. We can also occasionally hear footsteps of the toddler upstairs as she's learning to walk. So it's your choice - keep windows open and hear the white noise of traffic, or close them and bask in pre-war, sturdily built peace and quiet. The back bedroom is away from the street and is extremely quiet, so choose that one if you prefer inner sanctum-like silence.
Have a young one? We have a Pack-n-Play. Just ask us to leave it out for you. We don't have children, ourselves, but are happy to discuss other child-proof measures you feel might be helpful for your child.
We are two active travelers/artists who rent the apartment when we are away on a per case basis. Please contact us about specific dates and number of travelers.
