Mountain and garden views

Soak up the views during your stay.
Studio on McLeod is a self-catering loft apartment at our home in Somerset West, right on the Helderberg Wine Route. Explore wine farms, beaches & mountains, then relax in comfort. We share our home with 4 friendly cats who love guests almost as much as naps. If you enjoy cuddles & whisker company, you’ll fit right in - if not, this may not be your purr-fect stay. Our kitties believe cuddles are part of your booking. Cat fans only!

The space
Our delightful loft studio apartment is ideally situated in Stuart's Hill, Somerset West, affording guests the perfect base from which to explore the Helderberg Basin (a collection of neighbouring towns, namely Somerset West, The Strand and Gordons Bay). Our beautiful area is nestled near the foot of the Helderberg Mountain and offers a host of outdoor attractions. Within a 5-minute drive, nature enthusiasts can experience a hike up the Helderberg Mountain or prepare a picnic and enjoy the sprawling lawn of the Helderberg Nature Reserve. A 15-minute drive will get you to our golden, sand-covered beaches or a visit to the Cheetah Outreach preservation centre. There are no less than 6 golf courses within a short drive, the closest being a 7-minute drive to the Erinvale Golf Estate Hotel and Spa. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, day spa, hair salon & barber, craft market, curio shops, art galleries, grocery store, pharmacy, information centre, and more are within short walking distance from the Studio on McLeod.

Guest access
Guests have sole access to the Studio apartment with private north-facing balcony and are also welcome to relax in our pond garden. There is free off-street parking on the property behind a motorised driveway gate and palisade fence. We subscribe to 24-hour armed security response services. For security purposes, access for non-registered guests/visitors must first be cleared with the hosts. Guests will receive a set of keys and remote control and are free to come and go as they please.

Other things to note
CATS: Guests Must Love Cats 🐾
We live with 4 very sociable felines who consider themselves part of the welcoming committee. Expect them to greet you at the door, sunbathe on your balcony, or pop in for a cuddle (they’re convinced this is part of the booking). Guests often adore their cheerful visits! While we keep the studio sparkling clean, we can’t promise it’ll be 100% fur-free. Our guests happily invite a cat or two onto the bed for snuggles.

WiFi: Designed for unwinding, our loft doesn’t have a TV - because who needs one with two private balconies, a mountain view, and a lush garden? Instead, you’ll have unlimited high-speed WiFi to stream, work, or stay connected.

For security reasons, to protect our guests and our family, access to the property is only granted to our registered guests, unless otherwise arranged with the host.
Guests are required to ensure that the motorised driveway gate closes fully when arriving and leaving the property. Security gates must remain closed and locked at all times. These are precautionary measures for the safety of everyone on the property. Please keep in mind that our children live here and their safety must be considered at all times during your stay.
We subscribe to 24-hour security armed response services, emergency numbers are on the noticeboard in the studio.

LOAD-SHEDDING:
What does load shedding mean in South Africa?
Load shedding requires switching off parts of South Africa's electric grid in a planned and controlled manner due to insufficient capacity or to avoid a countrywide blackout.
You can download "Eskomsepush" from your app store, which notifies the date and time when electrical power to a specific area is scheduled to be switched off. Somerset West (City of Cape Town, Western Cape) is Area 3.

Where I went to school: School of Life's Experiences
My work: Gardening et al
Live to enjoy life and all it has to offer. My outlook is simple: highs and lows are opportunities for learning and, above all, give care to all... big or small. And always remember to stop and smell the roses along the way. Our home is a sanctuary for all who live and visit here. François and I have awesome kids - 2 teens and 4 friendly fur babies - naturally, the felines rule the roost and they love to meet and greet our guests. Being a wife, mother, friend, business owner and jack-of-all-trades I am always on the go. One of my greatest passions is set design and I am often working on pieces for productions showcasing at our local Playhouse Theatre (run by the Hottentots Holland Dramatic Society), conveniently just a few blocks up the road. When not building for theatre, I'll be in our home workshop busying myself with projects for our home. I usually have a number of projects on the go at once, our most recent being the pond we created in one of our gardens not just for its tranquillity but as a protected area for our Clicking Stream Frogs to inhabit and for birds, butterflies, dragonflies and small animals to quench their thirst. Our garden is an ongoing labour of love, intended for the peaceful enjoyment of all. We live in a breathtakingly beautiful area, where you will be treated with uninterrupted views of our beloved Helderberg Mountain. Here we have the best of both worlds, surrounded by a majestic amphitheatre of the Hottentots Holland Mountain Range and the golden sand beaches of False Bay. There is so much to do and see, or simply put your feet up and relax. The possibilities are endless. Welcome to our home.
