The space
The cabin is authentically rustic, with no major renovations aside from adding a dishwasher, gas range and washer/dryer.
She's held together with duct tape and love.
Original 110 yr old Hardwood floors and dilapidated exterior tell the story of a century passed and a city transformed.

Moderately updated with a newer shower, yet a 120 yr old Clawfoot Bathtub in an open concept bathroom. The bathroom (sans door) is attached to the Loft bedroom that serves you a comfy King sized bed, a double pullout couch and desk/vanity.
There is a second small pullout couch, kitchen, dining and half bath with barn style door on the main level.
*Please keep in mind these are small double pullout beds, best suited for kiddos.

We can't forget the wood burning Fireplace for those chilly nights!
Considering this wood building has survived 3 major floods the condition of this place is impressive.
I hope to be in this good of shape when I'm that old!

The cabin is right on the water's edge, ideal for fly fishing and BBQ's, lazing around with a beverage in hand taking bets on who would win if the squirrels teamed up with the family of Beavers that live in the river, and took on the Cobra Chickens. (Geese)

This riverside lot is fenced and gated off from the public, shared by three homes that are available for a vacation unlike any other this close to downtown Calgary.
They are side by side making this the perfect getaway for families or friends travelling together.
Dogs are welcome to be off leash as long as they're friendly with other dogs and their humans.

The lush treed yard is alive with birds and critters of all sorts.
*For a limited time, free squirrel upgrade if doors left open and unattended.

Bring your fishing rod and cast into the river from the front yard while sipping a beer. Bring a good book and nurse a tea while you lay in the hammock.
Walk over to the grocery store and grab something for the BBQ, and maybe meet your neighbours if you feel like it.

One of the most relaxing aspects of staying here is the sound of the river.
This property is meant to be peaceful and enjoyable. We encourage you to have a good time but please please be mindful of your neighbours and other guests.

It is one of the most unique Airbnb experiences in the city, bar none.

Send me a message with any questions you may have, or just hurry up and book your dates!
The winter has more availability but come spring and summer with the trees and flowers in full bloom, well that's a different story.

Other things to note
So you may not be able to tell from the photos but this place is over a 110 years old.
This is not your standard basic condo furnished by IKEA.
But don’t worry, we do have modern goodies such as heat and electricity!

Upon entering you may be accustomed to removing your shoes, however these original hardwood floors were not taken care of by Cinderella.
The floors are of course cleaned after each guest but as they are well aged it just isn’t possible to get that shine back and I'd be lying if I said I haven't gotten a sliver.
We won't be offended if you'd like to have clean footwear inside the house or you can always slip into a fresh pair of slippers that are provided for your comfort.

Eating outside is a great idea!
If you happen to put your food down please don’t blame anyone if you notice a few bites missing.
The culprit is probably one of many squirrels that reside in the area. They may be cute but don’t be fooled, they will sneak in an open door and raid the place.
Their less fluffy counterpart, the mouse, may also pay you a visit for unattended food. We do everything we can to keep them at bay, but this old house is just so appealing.
The most likely invasion will be honestly led by excited dogs that may be staying in the cabin next door who don't understand the concept of 'not yours'.

Please keep in mind spiders are our friends, not foes. There is a possible chance a friendly neighborhood spider friend may enter the premises at some time.
Please designate at least one guest as a catch and release member if possible. If there is no chance at a safe rescue attempt then please do as you must but remember this lost comrade when the next mosquito attacks.

These old homes each have a unique scent, the wood floors are over 110 years old. For those who are sensitive, please be aware that you're going to experience walking into a 110 yr old home.
Though I'm sure if they could create an air freshener with this smell, it would sell. But alike all scents, it's not for everyone.

One last thing to mention as you explore the home you may get the odd sensation that you’re no longer on solid ground.

The foundations have continued to settle over time and caused the floors to tilt and roll like a ship at sea. These old homes have in fact, survived not just one but three floods that supposedly only occur every 100 years.

The sound of the river along with the sway of the floors some people may feel a little sea sickness.
If you want to have a fun night have some Rum and put on The Pirates of the Caribbean.
Just don’t go plundering the neighbours.

Welcome! I have a hard time deciding what to put in these 'About me' sections, so instead of boring drivel about my day to day life or my affinity for website design, I've gathered a few famous quotes that speak to me.. If there's anything you'd like to know, ask away!! “Without music, life would be a mistake.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche “Not all those who wander are lost.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” ― Mark Twain “Now more than ever do I realize that I will never be content with a sedentary life, that I will always be haunted by thoughts of a sun-drenched elsewhere.” “But that's the glory of foreign travel, as far as I am concerned. I don't want to know what people are talking about. I can't think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can't read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can't even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.” ― Bill Bryson, Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe
