Just down the driveway are creeks and trails in the national forest. Wood stove keeps the cabin cozy in winter. There is also a wall-mounted propane heater.

Enjoy a peaceful fall escape! Welches is just down the highway, but here you'll be snuggled in the tranquil forest and a world away. Hike in the Douglas Fir forest, sip a glass of wine around the campfire, or just breathe in the quiet. This is a U.S. Forest Service cabin, which means in order to maintain the forest, we only open our lovely cabin to guests six times per year.

The space

Beautiful, cozy cabin with loft bedroom accessed by a ladder, tile floors, custom built cabinets, wood stove and gas heater. Large entry area is stocked with firewood for chilly nights. No television & spotty cell phone reception, but excellent wifi.

Guest access

You'll have access to everything in our fully stocked kitchen, including all standard kitchen appliances (oven, stove, microwave and toaster), pots and pans (including cast iron skillets), utensils, plates, cups, glasses, etc. Coffee, & tea are also provided, as well as oil, vinegar and spices for cooking.

Interaction with guests

We will meet you upon arrival to welcome you and show you around, and we will return as you are leaving or soon after. We only charge a $20 cleaning fee, so we ask our guests to leave the cabin in the condition they found it. Please put your trash and recycling in the mudroom, put the towels and bed linens in the laundry basket, wash the dishes (leaving them on the drying rack is fine!), wipe down the counters and sweep the floors.

Thank you!

Katherine's cabin is very comfortable, clean and a great base camp for exploring Mt Hood. The cabin is private and has all the things needed to prepare delicious meals, it's pretty secluded but still close to local grocery stores and restaurants. We had a great time hiking and relaxing, we hope to visit again soon.

Everything about the cabin was exactly described and more. It was seriously SO cozy. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you needed for cooking, including the things you forget about like a citrus juicer (for cocktails of course) and wine glasses, a French press and a pour over (and much more). Check-in was very easy and Katherine and Stuart (her husband) were so easy to communicate with. They recommended an amazing hike that was just outside our door, which we got to experience a few times because it was so close. It was beautiful out there, I can’t wait to return. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Great place for a quiet getaway, while still having access to Hood River/the Gorge, Mt. Hood, and Timberline trails! Fun record collection, since small kitchen, cute outdoor seating options, and helpful guide boooks. Hope to visit again!

This was my second stay at Katherine's cabin -- Mt Hood is such a special place and this cabin is exactly what I need for a quiet few days off the grid!

I stayed here for a week to get some work done and explore the area. Cabin was perfect, the firepit (and supplied wood) were excellent. Super quiet and dark with great hiking and lake swimming nearby. Everything that I needed for a complete stay (+ great wifi). Would go back there in a heartbeat.

Katherine's place in the woods is really, really wonderful, and I was truly sad to leave! The surrounding landscape is gorgeous - there's plenty of hiking to be done, and some spectacular views of Mount Hood. And the cabin itself is exactly what you'd want from a mountain retreat: it's cozy, friendly and well-equipped, and there's space to have a big old marshmallow-toastin' bonfire out the back. Katherine is a great host, too: there was some miscommunication w the checkin time that was my fault, not hers, and she was very gracious about it. I'd recommend the place to anyone and I'd love to stay there again myself.
