Neighbourhood highlights

The village Pyrgos:
What makes Pyrgos unique is the fact that it is the highest village on the whole island, offering magnificent panoramic views on both sides of the island. It is located on the west coast, about 8 km southeast of Fira, the capital of Santorini.

Thanks to its privileged position it stands out from a distance and the view from above offers a different perspective, you can only admire from the Tower. You can look at the green valleys, the big sea and the whole island unfolding under your feet. The Tower remains traditional, according to Cycladic architecture. The fact that it is slightly developed with narrow streets and stone houses makes it adorable.

The Tower is surrounded by blue domed churches and vineyards. Here and there you will find small galleries and shops that enter hidden corners as you pass through the successive, uphill and downhill alleys. At the bottom of the village there are tourist shops, mini markets, hospitable restaurants and taverns with delicious food and cafes, most of which are located in the central square.

As you climb this village, you will reach Venetian Kastelli, one of the five castles of Santorini, where the view is unexplored. It is built amphitheatrically with three churches in and around it. On the west side is the church of Theotoki or Assumption which is considered one of the oldest churches on the island. The church of the Entrance of the Virgin Mary is located at the highest level of Kasteli and the church of Agia Theodosia is very close to its entrance.

You can visit many other churches and chapels in Pyrgos, but it is worth mentioning the monastery of Prophet Elias, near the village. Inside the chapel of the Holy Trinity (Prophet Elijah) is the museum "The collection of icons and relics» of Pyrgos which has an important collection of ecclesiastical objects, books and many works of art.

In addition, in Pyrgos you can meet some remarkable wineries where you can visit the vineyards, learn about the history and production of the famous Santorini wine and, above all, taste the surprisingly salty wine.
Στον Πύργο υπάρχουν αρκετά εστιατόρια και καφετέριες. Μερικά από αυτά είναι : Rosemary restaurant, Botargo restaurant, Franco's cafe, Penelope's restaurant, Kasteli 1663 cafe, Cava Alta restaurant, Selene restaurant, Brusco Wine Coffee Deli, Kantouni restaurant, Johnnie Cafe, Mythos Grill House, Anemos restaurant, Pyrgos restaurant κ.τ.λ..
