Comfortable, spacious, self-catering accommodation; sleeps four. Traditional farm cottage two miles from the villages of Thornhill & Penpont and only a mile off the A702. Peaceful location with spectacular views. Ideal base for those wishing to explore Dumfriesshire: either on a relaxing break in idyllic surroundings; or an active outdoor activity holiday.

The space
Croftjane Cottage is a traditional farm cottage dating from the 1800's, with ample storage for bikes/ fishing rods etc in the outside lockable laundry. It sits in an elevated position, with spectacular views down Nithsdale towards the Lake District fells. The cottage is reached by following the main drive towards the farmhouse and steading, but has its own garden and private parking.

Croftjane Cottage is fully centrally heated, with double glazing, and also has a wood-burning stove. The sitting room is furnished with a sofa & easy chairs and has a 40” smart TV with FreeSat & a DVD player. The well-equipped kitchen area has lots of worktop space, electric cooker, fridge, microwave, dishwasher etc. A breakfast/reading room at the front of the cottage has spectacular views down the valley towards the Lake District fells. There is also a washing machine, drying rack and freezer in the separate laundry.
The master bedroom has a double bed and en-suite shower room; and there is a twin bedroom with built-in wardrobe. The bathroom has a bath and over-bath shower.
There are outside seating areas with table & chairs and a swing seat. A Kettle BBQ is provided and stored in the laundry. The self-contained garden contains a clothes-line and pegs are provided.
Mobile coverage is OK on most networks.
There is free wi-fi (fibre broadband), but please be aware this is a rural area and speeds may not be as fast or reliable as you are used to.
Parking is on the Cottage drive.

Guest access
Guests have sole use of the Cottage, outside laundry/store room and garden. There is private parking at the property.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) CHARGING POLICY

1. About this policy
1.1 This policy sets out how Electric Vehicles (EV) should be recharged while at the Property and responsibilities of EV owners in respect of safe charging.
1.2 Any reference to ‘Property’ in this policy is a reference to the Property including any garden, grounds, outbuildings, garages or communal spaces.
1.3 This policy forms part of our contract with you. A breach of this policy will constitute a breach of the contract between us.

2. Who does this policy apply to?
2.1 This policy applies to all members of the Booking Party and such other visitors of the Property. It shall be the responsibility of the Lead Guest to inform all members of the Booking Party and any visitors of this policy.

3. What is an Electric Vehicle?
3.1 For the purpose of this policy an EV is any vehicle that uses electric motors, either fully or partially, to drive its wheels. It will drive some or all of its power from rechargeable batteries which requires connection to the electricity grid (plug-in). This includes fully chargeable and plug-in hybrid cars, motorbikes, buggies, scooters, mopeds, bicycles, utility vehicles and tracked vehicles.

4. Domestic chargers are not permitted at the Property
4.1 Most EVs are supplied with a domestic charger, commonly known as a ‘granny charger’ or a ‘trickle charger’. These cables recharge the EV using a domestic power source via a 3-pin wall socket.
4.2 Domestic chargers are not suitable for use in the Property and will create a fire hazard. The use of domestic chargers is strictly forbidden.4.3 We retain the right to carry out reasonable inspection, on a without notice basis, to ensure that granny chargers are not in use in the property.
4.4 You are solely liable for any damage or loss suffered by us as a result of your unauthorised use of domestic chargers.

5.1 We do not offer on-site charging facilities and you must make your own arrangements for EV charging. Local charge points are located at the following places :

Croftjane is a 300-acre farm on the Duke of Buccleuch’s Queensberry Estate in Dumfriesshire, SW Scotland. The Cottage has previously been home to stockmen and shepherds working at Croftjane.
The Cottage sits in an elevated position on the approach to the Farmhouse and steading, with spectacular views down the Nith valley towards the Solway Firth. On a clear day, Skiddaw and the northern Lake District Fells can be seen. We are at the edge of the Galloway Dark Sky Park, with fabulous star gazing on clear nights. Occasionally, the Northern Lights are visible.
There are excellent walks and cycle rides from the cottage, with bike hire available at Drumlanrig Castle & Country Park. Deer, rabbits, hare, pheasants, partridge and other wildlife can be seen in the fields around the cottage. Walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golf are all available nearby.
The village of Thornhill is two miles away, with hotels and restaurants, shops selling groceries, a chemist, tea rooms, takeaways, boutique clothes shops, bank, a traditional ironmongers and an art gallery at Thomas Tosh.
The cottage makes a good base from which to explore SW Scotland and there are plenty of activities available locally, from relaxed strolls in the countryside to adventurous activities suitable for thrill seekers.
