Secluded, remote two-story, round treehouse overlooking a tributary of the Upper Tar River. Porch wraps around the custom spiralcase 3 BDR dome house encased in woods. You are in a rare Occaneechi Saponi alluvial forest of the Piedmont. Like the foothills. Registered NC Heritage area. The land is sanctuary for bird lovers, and rest for nature rejuvination. The stars and moon beam brightly; sun rises and falls in breathtaking colors throughout the windows-in-surround. IG @respiteintheroundnc

The space
**NEW energy-efficent AC/HVAC System installed May 2021. **

Can't see the house from the road. The house is on a well and septic. Water is filtered and there is plenty of wood for the wood burning fireplace, including an outdoor firepit for guest use.

To Note: two of the three bedrooms are in what feels very basement-y. There are cement floors, windows surround, but if any guests are scent sensitive to moisture, I'd send a message so we can discuss further. It is a UNIQUE house. I lived in one of the bedrooms on this floor for two years! I invite you to have tolerance for nature and the characteristics therein.

This is a new retreat space and campground on 23 acres which adjoins a wild floodplain forest. This is a POC and LBGTQ-friendly place shared with Respite Steward, K Cox who lives in a newly built tiny cabin approximately a football field (450 Ft) behind the roundhouse. There will be campers on the land, occassionally. Plenty of space for all. I reserve one campsite right by the river/creek for guests to enjoy. Shared access to beach area and trail through back forest.

This is former Occaneechi Saponi territory shared with farm partners, handewa farms and three camping sites. Perfect for those environmentally conscious land-lovers! Bring your fishing rod or cast and nature curiosity.

The creek is rushing and with windows open, it is surround sound. This is a pristine special place for rejuvination and respite. Storms or hard rains change the geology significantly, so it is ever shifting. The creek borders the property which you can walk along for about 1/3 mile through woods to the confluence of the creek. It is a wild ecosystem habitat for an endangered mussel species, and other amphibeans. "When you are here. Everything is Wild - moon," writes nayyirah waheed.

Where you’ll be

Rougemont, North Carolina, United States

I live 20 minutes between Roxboro and Oxford, home to many farmers and horse lovers black, brown and white. Berea and Moriah, two historic tobacco farming towns are closer in proximity with mini-marts, a general store, post office and a library. I live on a residential street but the Respite in the Round is entirely secluded. You could even skinny dip and be seen by nobody!

For runners, the Respite is on gravel road with no neighbors to the North - just a new growth Sweetgum forest - for 1 mile. Perfect for dog walks, or daily short runs.

Ledge Creek Forest Conservation Area has 3 miles of hiking trails only a ten minutes drive away in Stem, NC. Fall Lake Recreation Area access to hike, swim, canoe/kayak is 30 min away.

Local Berea Mini-Mart is Muslim-owned with free Qurans in English and Spanish and has amazing Cajun Chicken Tenders.
