Great location

We are really excited about our new conversion. It's a lovely, light yet cosy open space with a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and a cool sleeping platform/mezzanine. Piddlehinton is a wonderful village, just 20 mins from the Jurassic Coast and 10 mins from Dorchester, in the renowned Piddle Valley, with the most beautiful walks, views and an award winning local pub. We're right next door if you need anything, but if you prefer your privacy, you are completely self contained.

The space
This modern, airy, self contained living space has been lovingly converted by us, and we are proud to have had the help of our many wonderful local tradesmen and artisans!
There is a a comfortable double bed upstairs on the mezzanine, with divan drawers for storage and space for luggage, whilst downstairs there is additional provision for a further 2 guests, if necessary, on our lovely new sofa bed. All linen is provided, including towels.
Two wall heaters are plenty to keep you toasty, but if you want to get down and rustic, there is a brand new, fully tested and Co2 alarmed wood burner called Lydia!
Hot water on tap...
The modern bathroom has a great, Mira electric shower, a heated towel rail and has a “dressing room” off it, with hanging space, ironing board, drippy and a washing machine.
The fully equipped kitchen comes complete with a dishwasher, cooker/hob, kettle, toaster and microwave as well as a small fridge freezer. If you need more freezer space, we have a chest freezer in our garage that you are more than welcome to use. All the basic kitchen bits and bobs, such as crockery, china, saucepans are provided for your use, but if you wish to be away from the kitchen, and prefer to eat out, there are so many good places to eat nearby, you'll be spoilt for choice!
You have your own entrance, via a side gate, with a covered porch which provides a boot rack for the walkers amongst you, and this also leads to your own private outside garden area. A small sun trap – perfect for an early morning cup of coffee, or an evening cocktail! It provides a small table, chairs and a chiminea.

Other things to note
While converting the space into a residence, we were aware from the outset that while downstairs has a beautiful open feel, our bedroom area then became more of a sleeping platform. It more than
holds our double bed and it provides storage for longer stays, but it has got a limited headroom and this must be noted. The apex is above the bed, so it is more than adequate to sit up and read in the bed, but you will have to duck while moving around up there!
Although a quiet and picturesque village, the Yorkshireman is set back back from the B3143, and you may be aware of some road noise from local traffic at certain points in the day, but is almost completely quiet throughout the night hours. The road has a 30 mph speed limit, and is narrow in parts. Our children sleep on the road side of the house and have never had any issues with it.
We are really excited about our new conversion. It's a lovely, light yet cosy open space with a well equipped kitchen, modern bathroom and a cool sleeping platform/mezzanine. Piddlehinton is a wonderful village…

What can we say about Piddlehinton? It is truly a special village. friendly and beautifully Dorset. It has been our family home for 10 happy years. There are many things to do around the area - lovely walks, the most amazing pub and the County Town of Dorchester is only a ten minute drive away.
Thomas Hardy's sister was the local school mistress here, so Hardy was a regular visitor to the village and school house. The village is steeped in history. There are lots of things going on in this vibrant community- a thriving village hall with regular activities and which can be hired out. It also boasts a beautiful 12th Century Church.
The fabulous Thimble pub is 70 yards from the Yorkshireman (I know I've walked it more than once!) serving delicious food and a decent range of wine, beer and ciders
The Millennium Green is a short stroll away and is a delightful place for children and families to enjoy by the banks of the River Piddle.
There are many local footpaths to explore.
Puddletown forest and Thorncombe Woods are 10 minutes drive away.
A little further afield, there are the popular resorts of Lyme Regis and the bustling, artisan Bridport.
We have many varied beaches near us, ranging from quiet, undisturbed beaches such as Ringstead (14 miles), to the National Trust beauty of Studland ( 27 miles) with fun, family friendly Weymouth (14 miles) and the world famous Lulworth Cove in between! There really is a beach for everyone in Dorset, and we are no further than 1/2 hour from the very best of them!

My name is Claire Hudson. I work in a school, and when I'm not doing that, I am usually racing around after my two teenagers, walking our dog, solving world problems with my dearest friends, enjoying the eccentricities of our wonderful village life or asleep! My husband, John is an opera singer, and a carpenter - the perfect combination! Having lived and worked in London for 25 years, we made the (at the time) scary move down to Dorset. It was the best thing that we have done. If time ever allows, I love to read, and there is nothing I like more than sitting at the top of my garden, with a G&T, taking in the views with my closest friends and family. Simple pleasures :) I so appreciate how precious time away is, so we will not crowd you in any way. We live in the house next door, and you are free to ask for any advice or assistance. We just want your time in the Yorkshireman to be as perfect as it can be.

During your stay
My husband John, and I live next door, so we can be at hand as much as the guests would like! If ever we are away for your visit, we have a key code system, so that guests may come and go as they like, and we also have a friend to meet you and show you around if required. We would always be available to contact if you need us.
Good to know that when John is around, he is very much a handyman!
