The space
We're a 10 minute walk from Dunkeld & only 1 hour's drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow, with great public transport links. It's the perfect base to discover the mountains, waters, rich culture and heritage of Big Tree Country.
On the first floor you'll find a cosy lounge, a large dining area, guests have their own two generously equipped kitchens, free wi-fi, a drying room and bike shed. With lots of quiet spaces to curl up with a book or to email, you’ll feel right at home. All of our bedrooms are ensuite and have TVs, hair dryers and kettles. We are LGBT friendly, family friendly and well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement in private rooms.
FACILITIES:
Lounge - close the shutters, cosy up to the fire with a dram, curl up in the turret with a book, play the guitar or choose from the selection of games, books and children’s toys.
Dining Room - not just for dining, it's the perfect spot for laying out maps, games, playing a few tunes, having a meeting or just catching up on the craic. Seats up to 21 and has extra fridge/freezer.
Kitchen (open 6.45am-9.30pm) - you've got two well stocked kitchens with double ovens and hobs, fridges, 2 sinks, lots of teapots and cafetieres, food storage area and hopefully everything that you need. We’ve had a group cater for 120 people from this kitchen and we’ve got everything right down to garlic presses and electronic scales.
Drying Room - it's Scotland so you're probably going to get wet but we'll do our best to dry you out. We've got a drying room with plenty of room for hanging gear, complete with heating, a dehumidifier and a lock.
Bike Shed - we get a steady stream of cyclists so we've got a sturdy shed with an even sturdier lock. We also have a large track pump, bike spray lubricant plus an outside tap and hose so you can wash your mountain / road bike down
LOCAL AREA
WALKS - Whether you want low level, Munros, climbing, wheel chair accessible, long distance or local, we have LOADS of options. For the more ambitious walker, we have 35 Munros (Scottish mountains over 3,000 feet) as well as 17 Corbetts.(2,500-3,000 feet) within an hour’s drive. We also 18 pram/ wheelchair accessible walks nearby.
CYCLING - Cycling, we are surrounded by mountains, glens, pathways and country roads, so you have many options ranging from family friendly to teeth rattling. You can hire bikes locally or bring your own and use our bike shed.
FOOD & DRINK - Whether you’re a whisky connoisseur or chocolate fiend, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to sample, buy or visit local producers. Specialist suppliers include Scottish Deli, Aran Bakery, Dunkeld Smoked Salmon, Dunkeld Whisky Box and our amazing chip shop.
PUBS - There are lots of pubs – and you have to work your way around each one to appreciate just how wonderful and individual they are. We see it as our duty to keep testing them all out on your behalf. Most also do food and you’ll find samples of their menus in a green folder in our lounge. Some specialise in local ales, traditional music, food – they’ve all got their own character.
MUSIC (no music on during Covid-19 restrictions) – every Thursday night you’ll find a traditional music session at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel . The Taybank, Atholl Arms and the Perth Arms regularly hire in bands.

Other things to note
We've taken great care to make Jessie Mac's as ovid-19 safe as possible, following guidance from Scottish Government and our industry standard. We're only operating a few of our bed rooms just now to ensure that you have plenty of space. Right now we're operating on a self catering basis. Guests have use of 2 fully equipped kitchens and we have 2 cafes and a well stocked village shop right on our doorstep.

Location

Birnam, Scotland, United Kingdom

Birnam & Dunkeld are surrounded by mountains and trees with the river Tay separating the two. The area is famous for its music, Victorian buildings, its fishing, cycling and walking. Loch of the Lowes is where to go to see red squirrels, osprey and beavers. The Birnam Reader 2nd hand bookshop/cafe is tucked away but is fab. Birnam Arts have an excellent diverse programme of events, cafe & Beatrix Potter exhibition.
