The space

It is ideal for honeymooning couples, as it offers cosy romantic evenings, and they can literally float on a cloud. Families with children will have unimaginable fun, as they live a top an exiting tree house. And if you're a single traveller, it the perfect place to soak in on the heavenly views and retire for the night with a book.

In ancient times, the valley was sparsely populated by nomadic hunters known as 'rakshas'. The next arrivals were the shepherds who arrived from the Kangra Valley and settled to take up agriculture. Some of the earliest inhabitants of the region are the 'naur' or 'nar', which is a caste unique to the Kullu valley. Only a few naur families are known to exist now. A naur family in the village Soyal near Haripur on the west bank of Manali was famous for the vast land they owned and their practice of having 'rakshas' as their labourers.
The British introduced apple trees and trout, which were not native to Manali flora and fauna. It is said that when apple trees were first planted the fruits were so plentiful that often branches, unable to bear the weight, would collapse. To this day, apple—along with plum and pear—remains the best source of income for the majority of its inhabitants.
Tourism in Manali received a boost after the rise of militancy in Kashmir in the late 1980s. This once quiet village was transformed into a bustling town with many hotels and restaurants.

Our stay in Katrain and around Manali was unforgettable -all thanks to Ambrish's hospitality and wonderfully beautiful home. Absolutely fantastic place- incredible traditional vegetarian North Indian food cooked by Ambrish's family and staff that kept us warm and nourished for the entirety of our stay. The tent is so cosy, pretty and amazingly connected with wifi and HBO ! Also check if the tree house is available as it's definitely worth spending a night in the equally cosy beautiful treetop cottage with whopper vista views of the Himalayas! We loved this place so much that we came back a few days after our original departure to spend another extra few days in this heaven. So hard to live this little gem of a place. We will definitely be back !

A very scenic and cozy place in the woods.Awesome ambience and food. It's a home stay and they cook for you if you ask . The food is delicious ( better than any star hotels ). Everyone is very helpful . If you are a natural lover you would love this place. You have pomegranate, apple , kiwi , parsimony trees . We stayed in a tent house in the middle of all the trees , a very nyce experience . And there are n number of flowering plants which adds to the fragrance.

After a long journey on a bus from Delhi, I was greeted by Ambrish in the lovely village of Katrain. An immediate sense of home overtook me, a true reflection of the experience offered by Ambrish and his wonderful family. The property was lush, surrounded by fruit trees, greenery, fresh air and only the sound of nature. Ambrish warmly welcomed me into his home, sharing not only his advice on travel, sightseeing and tourism - but also his wisdom, honesty and friendship which constantly reminded me that I was in the perfect place! Katrain is only a short and amazing local bus trip to Manali, the views are incredible and the river energizes you at just its sight. Highly recommended - and the plums are DELICIOUS.
