A very nice house flooded with light all day, spacious, wooden floors. Upcoming, funky neighbourhood, very central (walkable and metro at the door).
Easygoing, pleasant international atmosphere. Clean and tidy. Cool vibe.

BEDROOM (15 sq m) includes: double bed with pillows;
large, tall closet; workstation and office chair; bed linen and towels;
flatscreen TV (around 40 channels, many international); paper bin; fan;
heater; bedside lamp; desk lamp; 2 electricity extensions (and universal adaptor if necessary)

White furniture, sunny room; can be made totally dark by pulling down the blinds.

HOUSE: A pretty, spacious, sunny and cozy house, wooden floors, 3.7 m-high ceilings. Sweet 1920s building fully refurbished in the early 2000s (and façade freshly painted in late 2014). Other windows in the house have views to Lisbon Castle.

Located between a quiet street and a main avenue, within walkable distance to the centre (Baixa approx. 10 minutes, Chiado/Bairro Alto. 15-20 minutes).

Double-glazed windows minimise street noise (we are at the heart of the city). We favour guests who are city dwellers themselves.

All modern conveniences in fully-equipped, bright, spacious kitchen. Paper, plastic and glass recycled.

Pretty large bathroom with bath and small one with shower (one on each side of the apartment, separated by door).

OTHER FEATURES(URL HIDDEN)High-speed wif(URL HIDDEN)The house has a total surface of 132 square metres and can conveniently be divided into two approx. 65-sqm 2- bedroom apartments by a door when greater quiet is needed on either side(URL HIDDEN)First floor (no lift).
• Fun temperament but quiet lifestyle; easygoing, pleasant international atmosphere. Loud noise is avoided; working, relaxing and resting environment. Privacy and quiet valued and respected = a fun house, but not a party house. Especially as party fun is available within 1 to 15 minutes of the house :)

•The house has 3 bedrooms in total (but not always occupied at the same time, due to much travel).

Guests must be animal loving or tolerant: two small, friendly cats live here. They are sociable, but mostly sleep all day :)

Living room also with balcony; a door at the end of the corridor can be used to divide the apartment into two 65 sq metre spaces, for greater quiet and privacy on both sides; 2 bathrooms; kitchen; all modern conveniences in the house.

Interaction: Half of this is up to you, of course! :) And I'm absolutely ok with that. I'm easygoing and easy to talk to, also a seasoned traveller who appreciates that each guest has different needs and wishes in this regard. Ideally I would like to welcome you in person to the house, and am very happy to share tips about the city and neighbourhood. I love the city very much (I am not from here originally, and always see it with fresh eyes), and for many years half of my life has been international (work, much travel, and friends). At any rate, when not home I am easily reachable if you have any queries, by text, chat or video.

After a long sleep of socioeconomic decadence and urban neglect, the neighbourhood has undergone intensive refurbishment since 2011; perhaps at this point even at risk of gentrification.
The picturesque and lively Largo do Intendente has turned into one of Lisboa's (and hipsters'!) favourite hang out places, a spacious and chill alternative to ever buzzing Bairro Alto. This charming square is now surrounded by nice cafés, bistros, and restaurants; cultural associations promoting music, visual and performance arts and innovative urban and social projects – Casa Independente, right in the middle of the square, being our favourite; and international hostels. Pleasant, relaxed, artistic vibe, very popular with locals and internationals.

Great little restaurants around, Portuguese and international, at low prices; also cafés and pâtisseries, some baking their own bread and cakes.

Supermarkets, grocery, small convenience shops within a few minutes from the house.

Central: Baixa-Chiado approx. 15 minutes walking.

NEARBY AND TRANSPORTS - House located opposite Lisbon City Hall current facilities, "A Vida Portuguesa" vintage portugalia shop, and several traditional/international restaurants and hostels.

Lisbon metro is one minute away, easy connections to everywhere in town. 3 metro stops from Baixa-Chiado.

5 minute walk or less: supermarket, grocer's, cafés, pâtisseries, post office, hospital, police station.

• Shops (for all sorts), restaurants, cafés, bistros, convenience shops and supermarkets (Minipreço, Lidl, Pingo Doce) nearby, some open from 9 am to 9pm and 11 pm.

Walkable distance to Rossio/ Baixa (approx. 10 m) and to Chiado (approx. 15 m). Transport: metro station (Intendente, on the green line); Lisbon classic trams 28 and 28E (Lisbon-Castle- Downtown-Estrela). Buses to all main destinations. All 1-minute walk away.

Also: free parking (long and wide back street) - perhaps a coin of 50 cents to a local arrumador (car parker) who will help you find a spot, park, and will watch your car (common around Lisbon center).

Rossio (train station to Sintra): 10 minute walk; 2 metro stations away.

Cais do Sodré: train station to get to the beaches on the Cascais line (for example, Carcavelos beach) : 20-25 m walk or 4 metro stations away (10 m ride). Trains take under 30 minutes to get to the beaches (Carcavelos, Cascais.)

Intendente is one of the most international and ethnically diverse areas of Lisbon (alongside the nearby Martim Moniz and Mouraria).
Recently transformed into a lively (hipsterish) neighbourhood, with a young and international crowd, Intendente is an ongoing and mindful urban rehabilitation project, which has closely engaged the municipality and the local community. Please take note you will likely still witness scenes related to Intendente's difficult recent social past (it used to be a small red light district); but it is as safe an area as any in the city, both for residents and people walking by. “Arrumadores" (“car parkers," seen around Lisbon centre) do not harass passersby in any way - they are just out to collect a 50 cent coin from drivers whom they help find parking spots on the street. I do not mention this at all on grounds of safety, but only for eventual unsightliness, so you know what you may encounter. I have lived here since 2007 and have never had any problems; I can vouch that it will have no bearing on your experience here with so much more to take in around this cool and fun place, only a nice walk away from the heart of Lisbon.
Anywhere in Lisbon city centre common sense and the most elementary street wisdom should keep you out of trouble; it is in that way comparable to a city like Barcelona.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events

Flatsharing is different than staying at a hotel; please bear that difference in mind :)
Here you'll find a casual, friendly, respectful atmosphere. Common-sense consideration for others is expected in the house, especially as regards noise. A fun, easygoing vibe, but not a party house. Resting and working environment; with lots of pleasant places right near the house for louder kinds of fun. The house is kept tidy. Out of consideration each occupant is expected to clean up after themselves in the bathroom and kitchen. Wipes are provided to make this easier, as well as broom and mop if necessary.
Important: when using the kitchen, please keep the door closed if you think anyone in the house might be resting, as this simple and considerate gesture reduces noise to a minimum. If you are using the phone, TV or watching videos, also please keep the door closed and noise to a moderate level, so as not to disturb others. As you would do in your own home.

Thank you! :)

Going on a sabbatical abroad from mid January to mid September, 2017, so currently looking for people who want to stay for a few months within that period (only). Happy to discuss it :)

For many years I have travelled the world for pleasure and for work, and always bear that rich experience in mind as a host and as a guest; it helps me understand the needs and expectations of others when travelling. I am easygoing, considerate, good-humoured; in an academic career. Main interests include literature, music, and travel. I am passionate about Lisboa and my neighbourhood and always glad to share tips and favourite places if you're interested :)
