The old Bell Bakery building was built in 1912 of local sandstone and is a beautiful piece of Australian history. Sandstone construction, high original ceiling, gorgeous sunsets and lovely walking. Our local cafe, Pips'n'Cherries, is renowned widely for its wonderful ambience and great home cooked food. Unfortunately the local Pub is currently closed, but you can enjoy the same drinks and beautiful sunset out front of the Bijou.

The space
One open space, ideal for a small group of good friends, a family or just a couple . Lovingly restored, but not too fancy pants. The perfect spot to sit around the fireplace and just enjoy the ambience. We have a TV with oodles of DVD's - no free-to-air as yet. You only have to hear the news on your phone! Our favourite spot is to sit out on the footpath and enjoy the sunset with whatever cool drink takes your fancy. Please note that we DO NOT have a stove in the building. We have a microwave, a jug, a toaster. We can provide you with a small butane gas camping stove if required. Slow cooking is available on the wood heater top in winter. The classical style of the building means a vaulted open roof - unfortunately impossible to air condition. We have fans, but it can be warm in the summer. Usually, though, the temp drops nicely at night and sleeping is comfortable in summer.

Bell, Queensland, Australia

Bell is a rural town and locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It is in the western foothills of the Bunya Mountains, 39 kilometres north of Dalby. Set in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains, at approximate altitude of 488 metres. The whole town affords picturesque rural views and our elevation gives us an excellent temperate climate - and usually cool in the evening. Rusty's Spice Market with its amazing spices, curries and regular workshops. The Bell Catholic Church with its gorgeous murals and gardens is a must. Pips'n'Cherries, our beautiful local café is famous far and wide and THE place for great home-made, fresh food. Bluebelles Art Gallery showcases our wonderful local artists; Geraldine's Tummy Teasers has the best Asian food for miles; Bellview Hotel perfect for that sundowner drink on the deck. A day trip to Jimbour House will immerse you in the best of local history and the Bunya Mountains is truly a treasure for young and old. Our local store can provide you with most essentials, along with fuel, papers, postal and banking agency.

My husband Paul and I made a 'green change' from the Coast to the Country nearly 10 years ago. We fell in love with a gorgeous old building, the old Bell Bakery, built in 1912 and pretty much abandoned for 30 years. Bell is a magic piece of the world. We're happy in our new life and keen to share our piece of Australian history.
