Bordering north Skye's magical Fairy Glen, this ensuite studio cabin within a guest suite has two comfortable single beds (or one super-king-sized), a lounge/dining area, a private entrance, and adjoining garden area. The peaceful woodland setting is secluded while also close to amenities in Uig (including the ferry to the Outer Hebrides), as well as to spectacular Skye attractions. Free parking, wifi, and self-service breakfast. If the desired dates aren't available, see my listing for Cabin 1.

The space
Bothain nan Sìthean (Fairy Cabins in Scottish Gaelic) offers accommodation in inspiring surroundings, with sweeping views of Beinn Edra on the Trotternish Ridge. From the doorstep, walk five minutes to the east and you’re immersed in the weird, wonderful landscape of the Fairy Glen. Five minutes to the west and you’re treated to a breathtaking, panoramic view of Uig Bay. On dark nights and when conditions are right, the aurora borealis may be seen dancing on the northern horizon across the glen.

Two private, spacious, ensuite studio cabins are contained within a recently built guest suite with a dedicated drive and parking area. Each has a private entrance and outdoor seating area with views over the glen.

The rooms are attractively decorated in modern-rustic style, the space flexible and designed for convenience. Guests have access to free wifi. Both cabins are cosily heated and offer

– a comfortable sleeping space (in Room 2, two single beds, convertible to one super-king-sized bed);

– a lounge/dining area with table and chairs, settee, and coffee table;

– a sink, fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave, dishes, and utensils; and

– a clean, modern shower room, warmed by a towel bar and equipped with eco-friendly shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and handwash.

For guests’ convenience, a selection of cereals, fresh milk, fruit juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sweet biscuits, and fresh milk are provided.

Peacefully secluded in woodland, the cabin is also convenient for amenities in Uig, among them popular restaurants and bars, a well-stocked village shop, and the ferry to the Outer Hebrides. Spectacular places abound in this part of Skye – the Trotternish peninsula is home to the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr. Iconic attractions such as the Cuillins, the Fairy Pools, Neist Point, and Dunvegan Castle are a short drive away.

Here, too, visitors may encounter a unique, fascinating culture. The cabin is situated within a community shaped by crofting, a form of small-scale agriculture that has played a major role in the island’s history and heritage.

With private, flexible accommodation in a remarkable location – and the warmest of welcomes from knowledgeable hosts – Bothain nan Sìthean provides an ideal base for an unforgettable experience of Skye.

Where you’ll be

Uig, Scotland, United Kingdom

The crofting township of Sheader is easily accessible: one mile from the A87 and three miles from the road’s end at Uig pier, which provides a vital connection via the ferry between Skye and the Outer Isles. The village of Uig, 14 miles north of Portree, has a well-stocked shop; a filling station; two hotels with restaurants and bars; a pottery; a brewery; and several smaller eating establishments and takeaways. A short drive takes you to many of the other stunning sights on the island, such as the Quiraing and the Cuillin hills.
