The House
The house is named 'Les Tilleuls' - pronounced ‘L-ay T-ee-UUL', & means ‘The Lime (or Linden) Trees’ The house takes its name from the two large Lime Trees which provide shade to its South facing terrasse, looking down, across the pool and the fields beyond. Lime trees are well loved for their large, heart shaped leaves (offering wonderful shade through the hot summer days) and their fragrant flowers, which are drunk as an infusion, famous for its calming and restorative properties.
The house is the perfect combination of a traditional stone farmhouse in an idyllic rural location, packed with history and character; and a comfortable, relaxed, modern family home, beautifully designed and refurbished, offering all mod-cons.
Ground Floor
The house boasts a fully equipped, contemporary, top-of-the-range kitchen, as part of an open-plan family room with large sofas and dining table, for relaxed, social cooking and eating. This opens onto 2 connecting terrasses, South and West facing, to make the most of sun and shade throughout the day. This large space has a double height gallery and a huge arched doorway, plus 2 additional sets of french doors, flooding the room with light all day long. With its thick, field-stone walls and contemporary heated, tiled floor, it’s as cosy in winter as it is cool and airy throughout the summer.
There is also an adjoining snug, with stone fireplace, leather sofas and wood burning stove, for those quieter moments, so you can enjoy a good book or some music. It’s also super-cosy in the winter, with a roaring fire, warm blankets and a hot chocolate (or something a little stronger).
Both rooms come equipped with TVs, WIFI and UK Freesat channels, as well as an ‘Xbox 360 Kinect’ for emergencies! (NB. French TV is available at the house via an Amazon Firestick). There are also an abundance of books and games that line the well-stocked shelves, as well as a full complement of family-friendly equipment and accessories (highchairs, cots, step stools, baby gates etc, as well as feeding & bathing items) for our younger guests.
First Floor
On the 1st floor there are 3 double bedrooms, each with their own, beautifully appointed, contemporary bath/shower room (all with heated towel rails), as well as a large galleried landing with desk/work space (complete with colour printer) that looks out across the front terrasse and pool, perfect if you need to write/work or spend some time planning your next excursion.

Pool and gardens
The pool is heated during colder months and measures 7.3 x 3.8mtrs (& 1.3mtrs deep throughout). It’s accessed down a set of stone steps & through a lockable gate, off the large, south-facing terrasse. It is surrounded on 3 sides by a timber deck and railings and a pool alarm is also provided. There are a selection of sun-loungers provided for your use and enjoyment around the pool. NB THE POOL IS TYPICALLY CLOSED FROM LATE SEPT - EARLY MAY. We do ask that guests be considerate of our neighbours in the wider hamlet where noise is concerned. It's a beautifully quiet location and so we ask that noise (including loud pool play) before 10am, after 5pm and at the weekends (especially Sundays) be kept to a minimum and no loud outdoor music or parties please :)
The terrasses and gardens at Les Tilleuls are cut into a gently sloping plot that faces south. On the East side, closest to the house, is a flat area of lawn lined with plum and cherry trees. Towards the lower front corner of the gardens is the shady play area, with 2-story wooden play structure, slide, climbing wall and ‘crows nest’, all within view of the house and front terrasse. There is a hammock-swing that can accommodate babies and older children alike, as well as gym rings and a standard sling-swing, for those more accomplished! Please supervise children around the pool, gardens and play areas at all times.
Beneath the large lime tree on the front terrasse hangs a wonderful tree swing, which is always a firm favourite with our younger guests. There is a large gas grill/BBQ on the sunny West terrasse, along with coffee table and more sofas, perfect for eating late into the summer evenings. The shady front terrasse offers both relaxed garden sofas with fire pit, and large garden table seating 8, for shady lunches. The East terrasse gets the morning sun and has a pergola and an ancient grape vine that wraps around the house, the perfect spot for some fresh morning pastries, juice and coffee.
There is a footpath down into the adjoining woodland which leads to a small stream and large natural pond, ideal for spotting wildlife. There are all manner of newts, frogs, fish and birds, and even deer, red squirrels and otters make frequent appearances, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
There is ample parking for multiple vehicles at Les Tilleuls and you can pull cars right up to the front or side doors to unload luggage or shopping with ease. Details of a range of local shops, restaurants, amenities and attractions (as well as quick-start instructions for all equipment and appliances at the house) are provided for your information with the Welcome Book that will be left for you on arrival.
We ask that guests check in after 4pm and check out by 10am, as we like to have ample time to do a full and thorough changeover. If you have any questions at all regarding a stay at Les Tilleuls, please do get in touch via the message function and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
