The space
The Basque Country has three faces, first its unique countryside, calm with this special feeling of eternity that it provides (like if nothing has changed since centuries), then the most well known coastal strip (40 X 5 kilometres), very busy in summer with holidaymakers, and last the Mountain. More than 20 years ago, when we had chosen this large piece of land to build our house, we were looking for exactly that balance. Close to the sea (we are sailors), but protected from the madness of tourism, traffic jams and fashion shops. We were lucky to find this place so quiet but ideally placed to live and visit the Basque Country. Retiring, the space reserved for my large office, away from home, remained free for a few years. And then we decided to arrange it to accommodate only 2 people, on a total surface (20 m2 terrace included) of nearly 80 m2. 2 people is less disruption for everyone and more space for our guests. For if there is one thing that life has taught us, it is that the greatest criteria of luxury today are Silence, light and Space. The accommodation , arranged in 2019, looks like a small loft, apparent carpentry work inspired by traditional sheepfolds. No air conditioning but wide front roofs, lots of light and shade at the same time. The large covered terrace is pleasant on sunny days as on rainy days for reading (one of our guests had time to fall in love with the chestnut tree, others saw deers) the aperitif or meals outside. The interior decoration is personal, composed in part of rare, exotic objects, brought back from our travels sailing around the World. Apart from some nice antique furniture, everything is new. According to many of our guests: "it’s better than at home!"

Guest access
Guests Access
The main house is largely separated from your accommodation by the parking area, nicely paved, with nearly no interaction. All parts described in photo or text are therefore strictly private. Access is completely independent. The building houses only your accommodation but our three garages are on the ground floor. We use them very little (we are only two of us), always taking care not to disturb you. The question of insecurity does not arise in the Basque Country. In our neighbourhood the comings are discreet and rare. Moreover our dog Guinness watches.

Ascain, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

The neighborhood is composed of main residences, where people live all year long and some secondary residences, mainly with very large lots, whose owners love nature and calm. There are some very nice properties, including the Xalkarra mill, among others, which has not seen wheat flour for a long time, but under which runs a nice stream that comes down from the Rhune and irrigates our neighborhood. One sees the nearby Rhune "full frame" and the emblematic property of the late Jacques Chaban Delmas, former prime minister, who chose to rest in the cemetery of Ascain. The village is 3km away. One supermarket in the village, Shopping centers Leclerc, Carrefour and Intermarché quite close (more or less 5 km). We only accept one "visitor" car, yours, one pet, and our guests respect the calm of the area. It soon becomes obvious that the singing of birds is preferred to sound disturbances. Exceptionally a second car will be able to park along the access road.

During your stay
We like to communicate with travellers who want to. We are available to show you the beautiful non touristic places, the hikes adapted to your level, the good addresses, the sporting and cultural activities and our secret paths to circulate in peace (rather nice when everyone is stuck in traffic jams...). You can go to the village on foot along the river on a small pedestrian trail, or cycle a 30 kilometre loop, almost without meeting any cars, in summer in the Basque Country, it’s a real performance.
