Wake up with blue herons, just steps from Sandy Pond. Play & relax on the pond, then cook in a gourmet kitchen. Family-child-GLBTQ friendly. Sleeps 8-10. Free WiFi. No pets. Smoking outside only. Winterized. We are happy to host small family events.

The space

Guests can enjoy the hustle and bustle of Boston and then relax, swim and boat on the pond. The house is 15 feet from the banks of Sandy Pond, 2 miles from a 10 mile bike trail to NH, and 2 miles from commuter rail to Boston. We are kid-friendly, and ask that children be closely supervised because of the adjacent pond. A spacious screened in porch allows for pond-side meals, relaxing and bird watching. Enjoy the outdoor shower beside the garden. Take over the whole house when we're away. There's a king size memory foam mattress in the master suite and a walk-in shower and soaking tub. On the second floor are three bedrooms, including a queen size bed, twin beds in second bedroom, a pack-n-play and a small room with a double bed. There's a futon on the first floor for even more sleeping space. WiFi, GLBTQ gluten-free/vegan/vegetarian friendly. Every bedroom has a water view.
There are window air conditioners in the three upstairs bedrooms. Usually ceiling fans and a lake breeze suffice.

Guest access

Wake up to blue herons and osprey then swim, fish, kayak, row a double-ended rowboat, canoe and try a standup paddleboard. Gas grill, portable outdoor fire pit. WiFi. There are two bathrooms -- one in the master suite and one for everyone else.

It was charming to be met by a board welcoming our family by name! And the house was JUST beautiful - both artistic and 'homey'. The garden was full of the most beautiful flowers. One of our favourite treats was looking at the birds by the two birdfeeders near the kitchen - washing dishes is much more fun with brilliant bluejays, cardinals and woodpeckers. Sandy Pond itself was a treasyre. The photo used for the listing is just right. Everyone in our family enjoyed kayaking, canoeing and using the paddleboard and braver souls (ok, me!) swam across the pond from time to time. We saw several herons. We also enjoyed woodland walks where evidence of wildlife was everywhere. In Ayer, we had a lovely meal at 'Markoh's' and found two excellent places to shop for food nearby. Our kids enjoyed a trip to Canobie Lake Park, a bit further north. Sandy Pond is a delightful place and Susan and Robert's house just a gem.

Very welcoming hosts and the house was every bit as special as it looks in the listing. Swimming in the pond and eating dinner on the porch overlooking the pond were especially lovely. Worth mentioning that the master bed is a water bed and they do have a dog - there was a bit more evidence of the dog around than I'd have liked... But would 100% recommend a stay here. An amazing house.

Our family of 10 just spent an amazing week in THE coolest home at 5 Hedgeway in Ayer, MA. On the very first day, we called the owner to say we were a bit early. While the cleaners were still working, Bob first gave us the grand tour outside: all the water toys (kayaks, paddleboard, rowboat, etc), the fire pit, the shed where the oars, life vests, and other yard toys were kept. He told us to pick any tomatoes, raspberries and any other produce that might ripen during our stay. And highly recommended the outdoor shower, which various family members used during the week. Once inside, we saw all the amenities and were invited to make ourselves at home. And, that we did. We were very comfortable in every part of the house and never felt squeezed in amongst each other. I think everyone's favorite spot, after the water and dock, was the huge screened porch overlooking the water. That's where we ate, where the kids played when not playing in the water, and where we adults settled in for drinks under twinkling lights in the evening. Even though guests don't always meet the homeowners, we were lucky enough to see Bob 3 times! In fact, on our final morning, it was more natural to hug him farewell than shake his hand. This was truly an experience made possible by his and Susan's generosity and willingness to share their lovely home. It made our first trip to the east coast so much more than we'd imagined. Idyllic waterfront home to relax and enjoy with family and friends. In town for a family wedding at Giblet Hill. Loved Ayer and surrounding areas. Bob and Susan were wonderful and their house is beautiful and very clean. Fantastic kitchen and screened porch overlooking the water. Relaxing and wonderfully accommodating for larger parties, loved every minute of our stay.

Bob and Susan were nothing short of amazing... There are no words to describe the surreal feeling that it is to stay at their lovely home. If you're looking for a lake house, look no further as their home is PERFECT and worth every penny they ask for. Thank you for a weekend I'm sure we will never forget. S&W

This was an amazing place to stay for a vacation. The house is so well-stocked, comfortable and charming. It is right on Sandy Pond and Bob and Susan provide so many options for playing on the water and enjoying the yard. They even brought a load of extra sand when they learned that our 5 year old grandson really loved to play in the sand. How nice was that? Our family was there for a week and did all of our cooking each day for 8 people. The supplies in the kitchen made food prep easy. The King sized bed in the Master Bedroom was so comfortable. We would definitely love to return to this home. Thanks to Bob ad Susan for making it available.
