The space

Charming post and beam house on Martha's Vineyard with two bedrooms, and a sleeping loft on two secluded acres. The house is peacefully tucked away at the end of a road with only three other houses on it, but it has easy access to beaches, bike paths and walking trails.

This post and beam house was built by the owner for friends family to enjoy during the summer. The space is open and inviting with a converted barn feel. Five people can fit comfortably in this lovely space. Two small bedrooms are on the first floor, one with a full sized bed, and one with a twin. A handmade ships ladder leads up to the full sized loft upstairs. The loft has a new futon and is perfect for reading and relaxing with a good book, or for extra guests, or older children.

The house is set back in the woods, down a short dirt road. The back yard has a lovely deck with ample seating, a shaded yard, gass and charcoal grill and rope hammock, the perfect spot to relax after a day at the beach or in town.

Guest will have access to the entire house and yard, including the basement with washer and dryer.

The owners of this property occupy the first house on the road year round and the other two homes on the road are occupied seasonally. Elaine is always available if needed, and is happy to provide advice about the island.

West Tisbury is located on the south side of the island and is more rural than some of the other towns. Only a couple miles away the closest beach is Long Point Wildlife refuge. West Tisbury also has a private town beach on the north shore that weekly passes can be purchased for.

A car is recommended, but not necessary. The island bus route runs past the road on the Edgartown West Tisbury Road, and runs often. The bike path is located at the end of the road, and connects to many of the island towns.

Guest access

Guest will have access to the entire house and yard, including a deck with ample seating, a hammock, outdoor shower and basement with washer and dryer.

Interaction with guests

The owners of this property, Elaine and Tim occupy the first house on the road year round and the other two homes on the road are occupied seasonally. Elaine is always available if needed, and is happy to provide advice about the island.

We had a lovely stay in Elaine's beautiful, clean, quiet and light-filled cottage. Elaine was a wonderful host who greeted us upon arrival and was available for anything we needed - but we didn't need anything! The cottage was equipped with all the essentials. We traveled with our 3 year old and 6 month old, and it was a perfect space for them. We enjoyed the hammock, grill, and outdoor shower. The location was perfect too. It's only 10-20 minutes to most parts of the island. One small thing to note, although they did not disrupt our stay in any way: If you are at all squeamish when it comes to bugs (I am), keep in mind that this is in the woods and you will see a spider or bug here and there. But, if I can handle it, anyone can. We've been coming to the Vineyard for over 10 years and have stayed in a number of different places. This was one of the best! We will definitely stay here again!

We had a lovely stay at Elaine's clean, light filled cottage. We loved sitting on the back deck where we enjoyed listening to the birds and the wind in the trees, as well as the occasional white tailed deer running through the forrest. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and the only thing we would we would have changed would be to have a double bed in the second bedroom rather than a single. But that was a small thing that certainly did not detract from our having a wonderful time.

This place provided our family just what we were looking for. It is private, quiet, and extremely relaxing. The house is well equipped and is very clean. It has a wonderful open concept and felt very spacious. What we loved the most was relaxing on the deck and listening to the wind blow thru the trees. We also loved the outdoor shower. Elaine is a fantastic host. She made us feel right at home and was very responsive. Millie the dog is also great!! We look forward to staying here again.

Elaine is great! She visited and made sure we were settled and found everything we needed. She answered our questions and was always available. She helped us figure out some great places to visit and directed us local treasures. She was great with our children and visited with her lovely dog so the children could love on her. The house is well equipped. The outdoor shower was amazing for beach rinses. The on site laundry was well stocked with detergents, the kitchen had spices, baggies for picnics, and ice in the freezer. There are beach pails and a couple beach towels on site as well. The children loved the hammock. They loved their daily hammock time. Our only regret was having to pack up and leave. We wish we could have stayed much longer!

Magical is how I would explain this vacation. The home description couldn't be more on point. Surrounding by beautiful what I like to call "Cape Trees" this house was completely secluded. Elaine was more than pleasant and extremely accommodating. We had everything we needed in the house, Elaine supplied anything you could think of and generously. We didn't have to worry about the necessities (trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, ICE!!!!) She would pop over with her dog Millie and just make sure we all set and enjoying ourselves. An all our wonderful woman : )

The cottage is lovely, private, and well-equipped with everything we could've wanted - washer & dryer, dishwasher, all kitchen needs, comfortable sleeping arrangements for adults and kids. Elaine is a fabulous host and made us feel very at home. She was responsive and informative. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!
