John Joe's Farmhouse is a traditional Irish farmhouse with fantastic views of the mountains and countryside in Portmagee. Located on the Skellig Ring and Wild Atlantic Way.
John Joe's Farmhouse is named after its previous owner John Joe O'Sullivan or 'John Joe the Jobber' as all knew him. John Joe himself built the house of stone around the 1900 after he bought the farm. He was an industrious man and over the years he worked as a Cattle Jobber (buying and selling cattle in the locality), he also worked in constructing the underground service in London. He was an accomplished violin player and this house was host to many 'ball nights' throughout his years. A ball night was a big event when all the neighbours from all the nearby Parishes come together for a night of music, set dancing and storytelling.

Interaction with guests
Portmagee Seaside Cottages is a family run business. The family is made up of Elizabeth and Francie and our children Paul (studying Engineering in Galway), Aisling (living and working in Australia) and Roisin (living and working in Cork). We also have a farm with pedigree Charolais cows and ducks (which occasionally lay eggs which we are happy to share!). We have good local knowledge of all that is going on, we can recommend nice places to visit and know all the local boat and activity operators. In our spare time (which can be limited!) we are avid walkers. We would be happy to advise our guests on walking routes in the locality and time permitting might also be available to lead our guests on a walk.
