Mary's place is away from the city, and perfectly peaceful, clean, really well furnished, and has everything we needed. Sit on the veranda and watch the mist float through the forested valley, and you feel you are in a lush, green rainforest. Beautiful! Great restaurants both u…
Mary gaves us a most warm welcome. The home was spotlessly clean, well thought out and appointed, with lots of thoughtful touches to make our stay the best possible. The photos do it justice! Be warned re the cockerils nearby doing the early morning calls but it was rather charmi…

Thank you, David& Jo, I'm glad you enjoyed the cockerels singing just as much as the eggs from their hens. I appreciate your comment about no handrail on the steps, but it has not yet been agreed with the neighbours, as we have to share the space between the houses - so perhaps we will be able to resolve the situation at some time in the future..
Mary is very welcoming and smiley. The apartment is well located, a bit far from Machico center, but the location is perfect to discover the East of Madeira, the mountains, the Eastern-North coast and Funchal. There are restaurants in the neighborhood. Sadly, the apartment is ve…
Response from Mary:
As mentioned in my previous review, Madeira is multi-climate, & there is a marked difference here from the arid, sunny climate of Calheta - where these guests stayed the previous week. It is quite clearly stated that this location is in the midst of rural farmland in Ribeira De Machico (less than 10 km from Machico itself), in a river valley in the mountainous area of the Santo da Serra, therefore subject to the daily descent of damp low cloud, & there is usually no problem in the apartment unless, like these guests, they slam shut all the windows & shutters, thereby shutting out the fresh air & causing problems with condensation, which no doubt caused any odours. Also, the apartment was cleaned the day before, & the floors freshly washed on the morning of their arrival. It is very sad that these folk did not communicate their problems whilst they were here, as when asked if they were comfortable they always said they were fine; I could have moved them immediately to my top floor apartment if they were that unhappy. Perhaps this was just an unfortunate comparison with the newly refurbished property in Calheta.
I am an Englishwoman, but have been married to a Madeiran husband for the past 11 years; & we moved from England to Madeira in December 2013. We have converted the old wine-cellar (adega) of our house to an apartment to host tourists (golfers, levada walkers, etc) & also work th…
