Peace and quiet

This home is in a quiet area.
Retreat to the light-filled comfort of Ark House — a contemporary coastal escape with sweeping ocean views and moments to surf, dunes, and the rocky headlands. Spend your days catching waves, fossicking the shoreline, or exploring nearby walking trails and scenic lookouts. Or simply unwind in the calm, coastal surroundings. The home is both intimate and spacious, sleeping up to six — ideal for couples, families, or friends seeking a relaxed seaside break with a touch of freedom and fresh air.

The space
Clifton’s Ark House is a thoughtfully designed coastal retreat framed by ocean views on one side and soft grassy hills on the other. Quiet and secluded, it sits among native gardens with private decking — an ideal spot for a morning coffee or an evening wine. Sleeping up to six guests this really is the perfect retreat.

On the lower level, the open-plan living and dining spaces are bright, spacious and welcoming, flowing through to a generous chef-style kitchen equipped for easy cooking and entertaining. A large, atrium-style bathroom sits just off the back deck — perfect for rinsing off sandy feet or peeling off wetsuits after a surf. The laundry is also located on this level for added convenience.

The home stays comfortable year-round with a wood heater and reverse-cycle air-conditioning.

Upstairs features three spacious bedrooms: two with queen beds and ocean views, and a third with two single beds perfect for families, small groups or those needing some space. This level also includes a powder room, plus a desk and a kids’ breakout area for moments of peace or remote work.

Outside, guests can enjoy landscaped gardens and ample parking.

Clifton Beach — Hobart’s favourite surf spot — is less than a minute’s walk away, making this the perfect base for beach lovers, surfers, and anyone seeking a peaceful coastal escape.

Neighbourhood highlights

Clifton Beach delivers wide-open ocean, rolling dunes and dramatic cliffs. It’s Hobart’s closest surf beach and part of a protected conservation reserve. Coastrider Surf Academy offers lessons and board hire, and the Cape Deslacs circuit at the northern end rewards walkers with sweeping views to Bruny Island, Frederick Henry Bay and across the dunes to Pipe Clay Lagoon.

Set on the South Arm Peninsula, Clifton is just 25 minutes from Hobart and 20 minutes from the airport, giving you easy access to beaches, bays and quiet fishing spots. The peninsula is full of sheltered swimming areas and shallow stretches ideal for wandering, paddling or casting a line. Take a picnic and spend the day exploring.

Grab fresh produce and local treats from Hill Street Grocer in nearby Lauderdale on your way in — they’ve got everything covered. A basic pantry is also provided, including teas, salt, pepper and olive oil.

The neighbourhood is relaxed and welcoming, with the surf club opening on Friday nights for casual drinks and dinner.
