Settle in, unpack, then walk 2 minutes down the quiet road to the local pub for dinner - or drive into town. Our cabin provides comfort, privacy and a convenient base for exploring nearby Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and the surrounding area. A historic ice house dating back to the early 1900s, the cabin has been renovated to feature a cozy loft, bathroom and comfortable indoor and outdoor sitting areas. We've put more photos on Instagram @adkcabin and on Faceb00k at /adkcabin.

The space

This cabin was built in the early 1900s as an ice house for the farm and local neighborhood before refrigeration arrived the Adirondacks. It has since been renovated with a loft area and bathroom. We have continued to update the space with free wireless internet, a brand new mattress, smartphone charging station and a small kitchenette equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and electric kettle. A comfortable full-size bed is located in the loft area. The main sitting area could also accommodate extra overnight guests who bring their own sleeping bags (we provide a cot). There are chairs and a table both indoors and outdoors for eating, reading, writing or working. A lovely private porch overlooks the property and Ricketson Pond. A hammock is set up by the pond, which offers opportunities for wildlife viewing and paddling. There is a pub within walking distance that serves homestyle cooking, locally-sourced burgers and a good selection of NY craft beer. We have 24 sweet laying hens out in the barn yard if you'd like to purchase fresh eggs before you leave! This private and comfortable Adirondack cabin is the perfect base for exploring the culture of Saranac Lake and surrounding areas.

Guest access

The cabin is attached to our farmhouse by a covered walkway and has its own private entrance. There is parking available on site. Local guidebooks can be made available upon request.

Interaction with guests

We live in the main farm house, so we can be available if you need us. We also are happy to give you privacy as you enjoy your stay. We are knowledgeable about opportunities for hiking, canoeing, local culture and more. Ezra was welcoming and gave good advice as to what to see and do in the area. We did a hike and explode Lake Placid. White Face Mountain on a clear day was stunningly beautiful. Cottage is rustic and charming with a lovely porch to sit out and enjoy. Bed is comfy and the shower was warm and powerful. Great place to stay.

I love this cabin and have stayed here many times! Ezra and Audrey have created a rustic and cozy little home with many special personal touches. They are always looking for suggestions for improvements, have updated some areas and have plans to do even more. I really think it is perfect and fantasize about living here permanently!

This is a cabin that is old and little has been updated. Electical outlets are limited so there are multi-plug outlets everywhere which creates a potential fire hazard. An orange electrical cord leads from owner's home to cabin. Poor insulation. Space heaters required to keep this small space warm. But they did not do an adequate job. Old, small refrigerator runs quite loud and disturbs sleep. Any utensils/cups must be rinsed in the bathroom sink. Bathroom, adjacent to small mini-kitchen, has no ventilation (fan or window). Appears to be an insect problem. Night #2, I was sitting on a black sofa and three times had to swat small black/grey spiders off (my hair, back of neck, and shoulder) before I moved to another area. Bed is located in a small loft that is cramped due to angle of the roof. Loft ladder requires you to climb down to use the bathroom.

If you're looking for a cozy place in a great location for exploring various regions of the Adirondacks - this is it! The Saranac Lake 6'ers, Lake Placid, the Wild Center at Tupper Lake, and Paul Smiths VIC are all within reach. At the cabin, Ezra & Audrey provide everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. We loved the quiet, private setting, the views of the pond out back, and the fire pit to relax by after a long day of hiking. Any questions you may have about places to eat or things to do will be answered either by the provided guide book or by chatting with the hosts. It also felt special to be part of a long tradition of guests at the cabin. Don't forget to ask for some fresh eggs before you leave!

Ezra grew up in Saranac Lake, and after 15 years of schooling, travel, and work in other places, Ezra and Audrey moved back to the area to raise a family and live the Adirondack dream! We love our old farm house and homestead and appreciate its proximity to town and culture, wilderness areas, and all kinds of outdoor activities. Depending on the time of year, we enjoy gardening, caring for livestock, maple sugaring, canoeing, hiking, and skiing. We are deeply grateful to be living in this special spot in the world and are eager to share it with visitors.
