This beautiful flat has high ceilings, great light, and good vibes. Perched in Clerkenwell near the Barbican tube, it makes a great base for exploring the West End (just 15 minutes), or to go dining and shopping in Shoreditch (walking distance). The building is a Grade II star listed building - it is considered architecturally significant. I love it here, I love the design - I hope you will too!

The space

It's such a lovely, spacious, light-filled space, proximal to loads of great restaurants - walking distance to St Paul's Cathedral and Tate Modern. This is an architecturally significant building; it is protected as a superb example of post-war British architecture. It was designed by Chamberlain, Powell, and Bon, the architects who designed the famous Barbican, which is right next door. The bed is super comfortable and entirely organic! The 'guest bed' is in fact two futon mattresses on top of each other - it's very comfortable to sleep in. There is a sweet, closed-off alcove where that second bed lives - it's like a second bedroom - you can see it in Picture 2. So you can comfortably fit 4 people here, no problem. It's nearly 600 square feet, which is rather large for central London.
I recently had work done on the flat and so the whole place has been repainted in April 2017.
This is my home, not a rental apartment. Please know that my belongings are around. Please ask me about this if it is a concern.

Guest access

Washing machine and wifi. The flat is close to amenities like grocery stores. You have the place to yourself, and there is a full kitchen, with hob and oven, of course. And an elevator.

Interaction with guests

If I accept you as a guest, you have the space entirely to yourself while you are here. I'll either hand you keys when you arrive , or one of my wonderful assistants will.

House is too cluttered with things and clothing. Apartment is old and lighting not working properly.

Response from Leila:
What an unfriendly guest. I mean, not one nice thing to say about my home or the care he received here from my wonderful assistants (who came out of hours to address a concern)? It's fine to be honest about your experience, but when you don't share anything positive about your stay - that's just poor manners. I do state on my profile that my flat is MY HOME and it is NOT a rental apartment. My belongings: treasures from my international travels, sculptures, art work, books, plants - are all around the place. I invite my guests to make themselves at home here. Drink from my selection of teas, use my spices and oils. Read my books. If you want a hotel or a rental apartment, with that lack of personal touch -please book someplace like that. This is for people who want to stay in a real London, architecturally significant property. Yes, it's old - THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT. It's built in 1968 and protected by UK law - you can't change any features here legally. I am not a minimalist, nor am I a slob. If you want to book here and have any concerns about either the age or the state of this place, or about my belongings, please ask me about it. I LOVE this place. I would like to welcome guests who can appreciate what this place is, it's value, it's design - and my taste. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea - no one could say that this place lacks taste. Please consider this when booking my home.

Leila's flat is centrally located and was a great place to make our base for exploring London. It has good access to the underground making it easy it get to the various places we wanted to see. The flat was very clean and everything that we needed was available. There were three of us, my husband, 14 year-old grandson and me. Because a fair amount of space in the living area of the flat was taken up with private space it was a bit cramped for three. However, because this is urban living one can't expect lots and lots of room. Also, because this flat is in a busy area there was quite a lot of noise. We got used to it so it didn't both us that much. Leila was responsive to my inquiries and very helpful. We had a terrific stay.

Response from Leila:
I have just had a clarifying email exchange with the lovely guest, Mindy. There is no unusable 'private' space in my flat. She let me know that she struggled to express that because one half of the living area is a cosy rug with pillows and no furniture, that she could not 'use' the space. In fact, the guests did use the space, by putting suitcases there. But they did not use it as a sitting or dining area. Indeed, that space is only good for floor sitting. So if you are not comfortable with that, you have to use the other areas to sit. I have personally shared my flat with my mother and two (tall!) adult male cousins, and I never felt too cramped. But I am comfortable on the floor. And I am used to city living! The flat is nearly 600 square feet. Not small by central London standards. High ceilings make it feel more open. But if you come from a more spacious domestic environment - this is spacious for a London city apartment. Not by other standards. Yes, as the other reviews have stated - I live on a noisy street - it's a main road. If you need deep quiet to sleep, this place is not for you. Most people do get used to it, like I did when I moved here. :)

I booked Leila's place at short notice but she was amazing with comms and so helpful. The apartment is lovely, serene and comfortable. Unfortunately I had to leave earlier than expected due to a family issue but I will always check to see if Leila's place is available when I'm staying in London in the future. Thank you so much x

Leila was an excellent Host and her assistant was very lovely and waited for us. The check in was flexible and the communication with leila was always fast and uncomplicated. The flat is really nice and a special place to live...not like a standard hotel room. If your sleep is not deep you may have problems with the noisy street but it was not a negative thing for us. The barbican metro station and also the Tesco supermarket are just a 3 minutes walk. So thanks Leila we had a wonderful time in a wonderful city :)

Leila was nice and accommodating. We never met her but through email and her assistants were able to communicate just fine. The flat has some interior work that needs to be finished. I asked for a video tour 3 different times but never received one. Seeing the work that needed to be done would have changed my wanting to stay there. Lesson learned. Otherwise, the location was great, nice, clean and we felt relatively safe. Be sure to get a video tour before booking.

Response from Leila:
Hey There, Thanks for the feedback. This review neglects to mention that I described the work that needs doing in great detail in a message and checked to make sure she was okay with it in advance; otherwise I would have let her out of the booking. Video tours are not a normal Airbnb thing, it's something I have requested, actually, to make sure the guests are suitable for occupancy. I will take that off my listing now as I see it has created an unreasonable expectation. The work to the flat has been delayed several times due to reasons beyond my control. If you are thinking about booking, please ask and make sure it has been done. (I am aiming to schedule this work for end January/earlyFebruary 2017).

Kind, fun, flexible, considerate, intelligent. I am an American who has been living in London on and off (mostly on) for nearly 22 years. So I truly appreciate the magic this town has to offer.

I am a yoga teacher and I do therapeutic bodywork and wellbeing consulting. I love what I do and am delighted to have a career that I love.

That being said, I am not a morality-driven yogi - I enjoy a glass of wine, I love to dance, travel, and shop as much as I love sitting meditation. I also eat meat sometimes, so feel free to do so in my flat. Who says a yoga teacher has to look or act a certain way?

I am something of an expert on London's thrift stores (charity shops) so if you like vintage clothing, feel free to ask for advice. I can also offer good restaurant and cafe advice.

Before yoga and healing I worked in the art world. I love beauty in all of her forms!

Please feel free to ask any questions about me.

Warmest Regards to all who read this profile. x
