Spend your vacation in a beautiful two-story home, surrounded by lush walled gardens. Our views over Lake Atitlan's 3 volcanoes are amazing. We are located in a quaint Mayan village on the north shore of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Please read all information carefully and ask us any questions.

The space

Casa Dermot is a lovely 2-story house with all modern conveniences and a full water filtration/UV system, delivering safe drinking water to all inside faucets. There are 2 spacious bedrooms that sleep a total of 5 guests. There is a queen size bed and a singe bed in the downstairs bedroom and upstairs, in the master bedroom you'll find another queen size bed. All rooms have a view of the gardens and volcanoes. The house features 2.5 bathrooms. You will find a well-equipped kitchen, an elegant dining area, two living rooms: a lounge area downstairs and an entertainment room upstairs. The house is very secure in the center of the village of Jaibalito with easy access to the lake and public boat transportation to area attractions. There are hiking trails behind the house and on either side of the village to explore the mountains or walk to neighboring villages. You'll find that Jaibalito is an ideal location from which to explore the lovely Lake Atitlan. Note that even a small village in Guatemala can be bustling with noises and smells. We hope you will enjoy being in the heart of this community.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole house and garden. There is a large dining area downstairs as well as another table on the balcony upstairs. There are comfy chairs inside and outside, providing many spaces to read and enjoy the view, but also to watch a movie or enjoy music. Note there is a regular coffee maker. and a stove top moka You'll find all the utensils and cookware you need to make a great meal. The bathrooms are spacious and lovely. The best part is the beautiful garden and the views of the volcanoes across the lake. There is a groundskeeper apartment on the basement level, which is not included in the house rental. There is a washer available and all gas is supplied for cooking and hot water.

We mostly rent our house when we are traveling ourselves, so we may not be on site to greet you in person. Of course, someone will be there to meet you when you arrive in Jaibalito to help you settle in. And you can contact us with anything you need.

The pictures of this place are amazing, but when you arrive, you'll see that they don't do it justice at all! It was perfect. We had to tear ourselves away to take advantage of the great location because it was just so nice to stay there. The house is beautiful, clean, everything you might need is there. It's even got drinkable water in the taps! Gorgeous views. Great sitting areas to hang out in. Beautiful garden. Cool objets from all over the world to look at. Village location is very good - in the middle of a bustling but not touristed tiny village. Easy to get boats there and back. Small shops have everything you really need but not much else. The information provided by Dermot is like its own mini guidebook. Wish we would have stayed there forever.

Dermot's house is literally an oasis right in the heart of a very small, poor town. I won't ruin the surprise, but walking through his gates for the first time is breathtaking. We didn't have the good fortune to meet Dermot, but Sacha was a fantastic host and helped us out whenever we needed it and was very quick to respond to us. The house itself is stunning, it has everything you could possibly need. This was great for us as much of the lake closes down early, it was a wonderful place to hang out. I highly recommend staying here, but I will note a few things that took us by surprise as this was our first time in Guatemala. This town is very poor and very loud. We never felt unsafe and we were so tired at night that it didn't matter, but it might be a nice to know based on the type of trip you are planning on taking. The groundskeeper, Lucas, showed up one night with some of his friends who were police, nothing bad happened, but we called Sacha and she took care of it for us.

Absolute amazingness. Fires on the balcony at night, a private chef to cook for the four of us with only a day's notice, spacious rooms with huge ceilings, all the kitchen appliances you need, coffee on the balcony by morning with amazing views of the lake, everything was just perfect. Pictures truly don't show how big of a place this is nor do it nearly enough justice. Can't wait to go back!

Very nice house . Nice views of the lake and volcanos . Fits several people if you get some sleeping bags since the house is huge . Lots of space and luxurious place . Sasha took care about all we needed very gently . Will recommend to anyone looking to have some restful vacations .

We absolutely LOVED our stay at Casa Dermot in Jailbalito! The house was beyond beautiful -- the pictures truly do not do it justice. There is a lush garden from which Dermot graciously allowed us to use select vegetables (spinach, herbs, etc). Lucas the ground keeper was incredibly helpful. The house itself was comfortable and beautiful -- we spent each of our four nights cooking and drinking wine by the fire! And waking up to the view of two volcanoes across the lake wasn't too shabby either. The house is a five minute walk from the docks, and the lanchas (boats) are super easy to take to any of the nearby towns. (My only suggestion to anyone looking to book is this: if you're a light sleeper, beware of the uppity dogs at night! There are many dogs in Jaibalito and they stayed up barking for a large portion of the night. This was pretty easily fixed with ear plugs, but just thought it would be useful to advise anyway.)

This was our second time at Dermot's fantastic home. The pictures don't do it justice. This isn't meant as a criticism against the pictures. I just think you need to experience the whole atmosphere of the place to get it. Magnificent gardens and Lucas, the gardener/caretaker will ensure that you get everything you need. Hope to return again.
