About This Listing
BEAUTIFUL BOAT with loads of natural light in central London. A wonderful opportunity to experience a part of London on the river that you would never normally get to see. Perfect for exploring London, walking distance to Big Ben & the Southbank.
Perfect for exploring London from the main artery of the city, the majestic River Thames. Just a 20 minute stroll along the river to Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, The London eye, Tower of London, National Theater, Shakespeare's Globe Theater and much more...
Please see my other listing for more information and photos. It is the same apartment but I am renting the whole 2 bedroom apartment.
Situated between Vauxhall & Chelsea bridge off Nine Elms lane, this beautiful boat is a secluded spot on the river with views down to Chelsea and up towards Westminster. At times it's so quiet you can hear a pin drop, the only noise being the swans & geese who pass by to say hi. It is one of the most unique places to live in London, and part of a beautiful river community. There are 3 flats in total and they are on a recently designed luxury two story houseboat, with solar and photovoltaic panels. There is an apartment upstairs and across the atrium.
I am renting my 2 double bedroom flat (furnished with double beds, wardrobes and shelves). It is a beautiful 2 bed flat with open plan living room and fully fitted kitchen dishwasher included, with power shower, central heating, and wifi available 24 hours a day, all mod cons (oven, dishwasher, washer, fridge freezer, and wifi internet).
Huge floor to ceiling windows giving an epic view onto the river. A beautiful deck leads out from the living room right onto the river for morning coffees. There is also a small outdoor swimming pool (sometimes useable for swimming sometimes not) on the pier overlooking the river Thames, which is used in summer for relaxing and sun bathing if the English weather permits! The deck has the most spectacular views in London (see sunset photos!)
The area around the pier is a large development site of central London, including the new American embassy, Battersea power stations transformation and new luxury riverside apartments. In order to get to the boat you have to walk around a construction site, it's perfectly safe but it can be a little bit confusing which is why I send you out detailed instructions of how to get to the boat on arrival. It's noisy when you walk past the site but once you are on the safe haven of the boat it becomes a distant memory.
Close enough to cycle or walk into central London, you can actually hear Big Ben chiming at night. 10 minutes walk to Vauxhall tube (zone 1), where there are bikes for hire and many buses into Oxford street and Soho which is a short 20 minute ride into town.
Also nearby the site for the famous Chelsea Flower show.
I look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to London :)
Guests will have access to the whole apartment, and my front deck which leads out onto the river Thames. There is also a small outdoor swimming pool on top of the pier that is used in the summer.
Interaction with Guests
I will meet and greet you to show you around the boat and then leave you to it, but I am always available on my mobile if you have any questions about anything :)
This is a historic riverside area with many interesting buildings within walking distance;
Battersea Power Station (featured on the Pink Floyd album cover)
MI6 Headquarters (In the latest James bond movie)
Houses of Parliament
Oval Cricket Ground
10 Downing Street
Battersea park is a 15 minute walk away, a wonderful green space with a beautiful lake for boating, a coffee shop and art gallery. There are many pubs and restaurants all 10-15 minutes walk into Battersea or down to Vauxhall. (Please see my guidebook)
10 minutes down the road in St Georges wharf, Vauxhall you can find all this:
Spa & yoga classes
Supermarkets - Waitrose, Sainsburys and Tesco
Bank ATM machine
Thames clipper boat pier with routes to London eye and Greenwich
Riverside jogging track
Pret a Manger - sandwich bar
Ultra convenient Zone 1 Tube:
Vauxhall tube station is a 10 minute walk, it's in Zone 1 on the Victoria line.
There are also 3 train stations all about 10 mins walk connecting you with the rest of London; Vauxhall train station, Queenstown road train station and Battersea Park train station.
Vauxhall bus station is large and connects a huge number of bus routes around London. There is a bus stop 2mins from the boat, the number 344 or 156 can take you towards central London and Vauxhall or out towards Clapham and Battersea
Boris bikes are available for hire 5 minutes away, or up by Vauxhall tube station.
By Tube: Get the Piccadilly line tube East bound and change at Green park onto Southbound Victoria line. Get off at Vauxhall and get the bus to the boat.
By train: Get the Heathrow express to Paddington, then get the Bakerloo line Southbound to Oxford Circus and change onto the Victoria line Southbound to Vauxhall tube.
Get the train to Vauxhall, changing at Clapham junction. Or get the train to Clapham junction and get the 344 bus to the boat.
Other Things to Note
The River Thames has one of the highest tidal changes in Europe, every 6 hours we go up or down 25ft, it's a gentle transition but one that allows you to feel totally connected to the river and natures cycle. When we are at low tide the boat is on a slight slant as it rests on the river bed. This happens every 12 hours, one of those times is normally in the middle of the night so you won't notice.
It's not a household full of rules, just treat it as you would your own home :) Be considerate and thoughtful. Also please be aware about coming home late and being loud as I have neighbours.
My stay was an extremely enjoyable experience - living on the river was wonderful, seeing the changing moods & all the interesting river traffic including the wildlife. The apartment was lovely & everyone concerned, very helpful & pleasant. Location was great for my long-walking style sight-seeing & I even went to a cricket match at 'The Oval'. I hope I can return in the future.
Kashfi's cute little houseboat is very comfortable and nicely decorated. We had a beautiful new years on the deck and Kashfi was very helpful as we had a little difficulties with water heat etc. Def coming back ;-)
Fantastic stay at Kash's. She was an excellent host allowing early check in, providing lots of info, water and glass by the bed and inviting me to join a pier film night. The boat is really great- all the benefits of being on the river along with proper sized rooms, kitchen and bathroom. Would highly recommend to all.
Kashi was a very welcoming host, she provided a lot of detailed info, making it easy to get to her place, and to find neighborhood attractions. The apartment was cosy and comfortable. I would describe it as more bohemian charm than a luxury accommodation. Definitely a unique London experience, and it was very nice to escape from the hustle bustle to the quiet waterfront. It was interesting to get to see up close the incredible tide changes of the river.
My companion wanted to stay on a houseboat. I must admit I was skeptical but I am very glad we chose to stay at Kashi's place. It is very stylish, with all the comforts of a good hotel --and a lot more room. It is peaceful and living on the Thames is a terrific experience. I would highly recommend it. The location is a bit isolated --it's not the sort of place where you will walk to the great attractions of London. But the slight inconvenience is more than made up for by the boat's many plusses.
The houseboat was exactly as pictured, very roomy and inviting. We felt very much at home. We enjoyed being in a very different environment.
The walk to the tube was a little longer than I expected, but as most of it was along the river, it was pleasant enough. The two ares nearby that we explored, St George's wharf and Battersea, were both nice and we had good meals at each.
It was a nice experience to stay at Kash's Boathouse. Commuting wise, it was a nice walk from the Boathouse to Vaxhaull tube station. But it gets difficult when it's hot so do not forget to use the bus 156 and 344 to travel between the pier and the tube station. Kash and her neightbor have been very helpful with providing helps and advice. As for the house, it was a unique experience and it was fun. Not sure when I can live on a boat again in my life.
Thanks Kash and her neightbor Liv.
