B & B Gaillardon is situated in the village Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, on the border of the Charente and the Dordogne. It is recognised as one of the most beautifull villages in France. The village is home to the largest monolithic church in Europe.
This B & B is beautifully situated high in the village with a fantastic view. The authentic character of the house has been preserved but the beds and bathrooms are very comfortable and luxurious. The extensive breakfast with fresh fruits and special dishes are praised on TripAdvisor. The master bedroom is for two people and is based upon the price (115 euro). The third, fourth, fifth and sixth person pays 35 euro per night incl. Breakfast per person.
The colorful, sunny and shady garden is accessible for guests. Spacious rooms with a living area are intended to make you come to rest on your holliday. The rooms are large enough to you feel on vacation even on a rainy day.
Interaction with guests
Some guests find it enjoyable together to drink a glass of wine together in the sunny garden, other guests are rather more on their own. We respect that.

The centre of the village has a lovely square with terraces and attractive restaurants where you can sit and relax, drink a coffee, enjoy a three-course-lunch or dinner in the evening. Romantic small streets with typical French stone houses give the village its special, picturesque character.
The region’s most known product is Pineau; a famous aperitif, similar in production to cognac.
Saintes and Bordeaux are beautiful ancient cities which still have remnants of their Roman past. Both cities are worth a visit.
Angoulême with its beautiful old centre is forty-five minutes from here, situated on a plateau and on the river Charente. Cartoon characters are everywhere in the city, as this is the city of cartoons. It has five museums and an art school for illustration, video-games and interactive media.
Saint Emilion lies in the heart of the Bordeaux-wine region. A historical village to visit and of course the place to go if you want to buy some great wines to take home with you.
A bit further away is Dune Pilat, on the Atlantic coast. Here you can find the highest dunes of Europe. A great place to go on a warm summer’s day to sunbathe and swim.
If you want to stay closer to Aubeterre, the river Dronne is the place where the locals swim. At different places there are small beaches, often with a small bar where you can have a bite to eat and something to drink. For a more active day; try our Electric Bikes to explore the countryside or take a walk in the countryside or woods which are all in the immediate vicinity.
Aubeterre has the largest monolithic church (St. Jean) in Europe and is certainly worth a visit. “Headset Tours” are available in several languages.
The Eglise St. Jacques (12th century) with its beautiful façade should not be missed either when visiting Aubeterre.
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne has two beautiful churches. One of them, église monolith St. Jean, is the largest and most unique in Europe and a visit more than worthwhile.
A maze of old streets with many shops: it's good to be in an atmosphere of times gone by. The square in the center has both terraces and restaurants and in the summer there are regular musical evenings.
Bergerac and Bordeaux airports are used by most guests but the train to Angoulême is also a favorite.

The name Aubeterre originates from ‘Alba-Terra’ which means White Ground, and reflects the white chalk stone that most of the houses are build of. The village is listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France. Out of a total of around 32 thousand villages, this is not a bad ranking!
The village has around 420 permanent residents. Desite this, there are about ten restaurants in the village. Pizza, cupcakes, crepes, or traditional French cuisine; almost everything is available in the village. If you like ice-cream, there is a wide variety from ‘Glace Artisanal’ to Mövenpick, we have it all in Aubeterre.
The river offers a small beach, adjacent to the camping, for sunbathing and swimming. Canoes are available for hire at the canoe-club. You can explore several miles upstream, with an easy paddle back to town at the end of the day.

The breakfast 'Versailles' with lots of fresh fruit, hot quiches and other French delicacies is a good start of yet another wonderful day in this southern part of the Charentes region.

Voor een groot gedeelte van het jaar woon ik in Frankrijk en run daar een B&B naast mijn werkzaamheden als ontwerper en fotograaf. Aubeterre is het dorpje uit mijn jeugd en ik ben eraan verknocht. Het heeft het label: 'een van de mooiste dorpjes van Frankrijk' en dat is ook zeker zo. Ik hoop dat jij dat net zo ervaart als ik. Welkom in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne
